Smitten ~ Date Night

Smitten ~ Date Night
Shocking Pink linear holo

Date Night is from Smitten’s Valentine Collection 2015. There was four polishes in that collection, but I only bought this one. I love a good hot pink!

The formula was great and the polish covers really well. I used two easy coats for this mani. Drying time was really good.

Go get your sunglasses, because Date Night might blind you. Here’s a pic of two coats and no topcoat in the sun:

Wow, right??

The best thing is that it’s equally cool in low lights. You can keep your sunglasses on for this low light shot:

So what I did was to sponge on a little bit of holo glitter onto it. I used a no name glitter from Cosmetic Arts for that purpose. After that I stamped on it. I found an “open” motif in order not to cover up too much of the pinkness. The plate I used was BP-L 003, and I stamped with #464 from Kiko’s Denim collection. I sealed the whole thing up with topcoat, and here’s my final mani:

And on the low light picture you can see how little of the holo glitter I sponged on :)

Here are the three polishes I used:

I like pink. If you like pink too, you should get this beauty before it’s too late! It’s gorgeous!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Strong linear holo
Overall impression: Wow, this is an amazing pink!

I bought Date Night from Edgy Polish

Cupcake Polish ~ Scarlett’s purple and Sasha’s Blue

Cupcake Polish ~ Scarlett’s purple and Sasha’s Blue
The Dog Duo

Today I am going to show you swatches of two Cupcake polishes. They’re both microglitters and they’re both Norway Nails store exclusives.

Here’s a picture that Wenche from Norway Nails took of the set:

The reason I’m not just taking a picture of the set myself is that I love the little dachshund behind the polishes! :D

First polish up is Scarlett’s Purple. It’s a purple jelly with purple holographic microglitter. The formula is good; perhaps a little bit on the thick side: Just the way I like it! :) Coverage is good too, I ended up using two coats for these swatches. The drying time is good. The polish dries up slightly gritty because of the microglitter. I applied one layer of topcoat to fix that. If you want your nails completely smooth, you might need two layers of topcoat. That’s not how I roll though!

I had no direct sunshine today, boo. So here’s a picture taken in ordinary daylight. It’s two coats and a layer of topcoat:

This is a great glitter, look at that sparkle! I can’t even imagine how crazy blingy this must be in the sun!

I took a picture with flash just to see if I could simulate a bit of sunshine!

Verdict:
Beautiful, blingy, I love the colour.

The second one of the Dog Duo is Sasha’s Blue. It’s a bright blue (slightly teal) jelly with holographic microglitter.

The formula is even better than Scarlett’s Purple. It’s way easier to apply and it covers just a bit better. I still used two coats and the drying time is equally good. It doesn’t dry up quite as gritty as Scarlett’s Purple, so one layer of topcoat is enough for total smoothness.

Still no sunshine, so here’s two coats and a layer of topcoat in ordinary daylight:

Wow, right? I think it looks amazing!

Here’s a flash picture. It shows off the microglitter, but it wasn’t really necessary to show its true beauty.

Verdict:
Wow, just wow!

Who is Sasha and Scarlett, you might ask. Dogs, obviously - this is the Dog Duo after all.

Let me introduce Wenche's dog Sasha:

And Scarlett when she turned 6 months.

The pictures are both Wenches and she agreed that I could use them in this post :)
Aren’t they just cute both of them?

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Jelly with holo microglitter
Overall impression: I love this duo

Cupcake Polish ~ Neither Here Noir There

Cupcake Polish ~ Neither Here Noir There
Dark purple linear holo with slightly red duochrome flash

Neither Here Noir There is from the Falling Back In Time Collection from Autumn 2014.

The formula is good and easy to work with, and two coats is what it takes to make this baby shine. Drying time is good, nothing worrying to report.

So here’s two coats and no topcoat in the sun:

I love that the rainbows flash red!

Here is what it looks like in low lights. It is a little dusty.

I placed a nail sticker in the shape of a star on each nail. I love stars and I wanted this simple. I sealed the whole thing of with a layer of topcoat.

Perhaps I should have added more stars? I didn’t want to cover up too much of the purple though!

What do you think of this? Do you ever wear dark colours in the spring and summer?

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Linear holo with a duochromatic flash
Overall impression: This polish looks the best in the sunshine
Buy again: Yes, probably

Cupcake Polish ~ Plant Parenthood

Cupcake Polish ~ Plant Parenthood
Dusty sky blue linear holo

Plant Parenthood is from the In Bloom collection from April 2015.

The formula is on the creamy side and easy to work with. It was almost opaque after the first coat, but the second coat evened out the little irregularities. Drying time is good.

Here’s two coats and no topcoat in the sun:

The rainbows aren’t shy, that’s for sure.

Here’s a low light picture that shows the dustiness, but also the rainbows that refused to not shine!

I decided to try some of my square nail studs. I picked turquoise as a good colour for Plant Parenthood. I applied a slow drying topcoat and then laid the studs onto my nails while the topcoat was still dry. When I had placed them all, I applied another layer of topcoat – and my mani was done.

Sunshine:

Low light:

I need to practice more with the studs, to lay them down more evenly…umm…hold on – that sounded so much better in my head ;) Aaaanyway - I must admit that I was very pleased with this.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Creamy linear holo
Overall impression: Nice rainbows, nice quality polish. I would have preferred it withouth the dustiness
Buy again: Yes

Chaos & Crocodiles ~ Operation Vegas

Chaos & Crocodiles ~ Operation Vegas
Blackened red/purple linear holo with sparkles and red shimmer

I might as well tell you right away that I love my Chaos & Crocodiles polishes, both my glitters and my holos. Colours are great, formula, I like the whole package!

Operation Vegas is no exception! The formula is great and so is the coverage. Two coats is what it took to get rid of visible nail line and the drying time is great.

I had sunshine, so I grabbed the camera and headed for the rays of sun. I stuck my hand into the sunshine, and WHAM! I was totally blinded. The rainbows just went totally crazy!

Put on your sunglasses, because here’s two coats and no topcoat in the sunshine.

Rainbows like this can make me swoon!

I love the colour of the holo flame too.

The colour is also really nice out of the sun, and the rainbows kept wanting to come out and play.

I made blue dots on it. I used Models Own’s Chrome Blue from the recent Chrome collection. It’s a really cool blue polish and it dries super fast. It’s metallic so I wasn’t able to take pictures in the sunshine: The camera went completely crazy.

So here’s my final mani in the shadows:

I only have positive words about Operation Vegas. It’s absolutely gorgeous, don’t you think?

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Really good
Finish: Linear holo with shimmer
Overall impression: Love, love, love!
Buy again: Yes

Girly Bits ~ Just my cup of Tea’l

Girly Bits ~ Just my cup of Tea’l
Teal linear holo with shimmer

Are you a Girly Bits fan? I am! I think Pam makes fantastic polishes – and I especially like the way she mixes holo, shimmer and flakies.

If you haven’t heard about Just my cup of Tea’l before, then it’s because it’s a Facebook group custom. It was available for a limited period of time only, and was only for sale for member of that specific fan group. I was fast and snagged my bottle, because I loved the look of it!

The formula is great, but I expect no less from a Girly Bits polish. It covers well, and it took two easy coats to achieve full opacity. The drying time between the coats is good.

So, ladies and gents, here’s two coats and no topcoat taken in the evening sun:

Is that amazing or what?! I’m swooning over here myself :D

Here’s a low light picture. God I love that colour!

I must admit that I didn’t know what to do with it. I wanted more bling but I didn’t want to cover the polish up with a stamp. I went for glittery tips instead. I sponged Silver Sparkler from Salon Perfect onto the tips, sealed it all up with a layer of topcoat, et voilá: My mani was done.

I managed to snap a picture before the sun set completely:

Here’s the low light picture.

I’m well impressed with Just my cup of Tea’l. The colour is spot on, and as I said: I love the mix of holo and shimmer. It’s a winner when a polish is both pretty in and out of the sunshine! Thumbs up from me! :)

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Linear holo with shimmer
Overall impression: Fantastic polish in all respects

Cupcake Polish ~ You’ll need the Pink

Cupcake Polish ~ You’ll need the Pink
Hot pink jelly with holo glitter and iridescent glitter

It’s time for another really special polish today: You’ll need this pink. It’s a store exclusive for Rainbow Connection in the UK.

The formula is great and really easy to work with. I used two coats for full opacity. The drying time is good, so this polish ticks all the right boxes.

And wow! This pink is spectacular, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it!
Take a look at two coats and a layer of topcoat in the sun:

Trust me when I say that the sparkliness made my camera freak out, and it’s much more sparkly in real life than my pictures suggest.

Here’s a low light picture to prove my point. When out of the sun, the iridescent glitters take over and sparkle like crazy!

Amazing is the perfect word for this polish!

I sat and gazed at it for a while, wondering what to do with it. In the end my boyfriend persuaded me to leave it like it was, because “there’s enough going on as it is”. And I must admit that he’s right, so I left it just like it was.

You’ll need this pink for sure. Unfortunately it was limited edition and now discontinued.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Jelly with iridescent and holo glitters
Overall impression: Amazingly sparkly polish, fantastic colour. I love it!
Buy again: Yes, yes, yes!

Glittering Elements ~ Moon Fairy

Glittering Elements ~ Moon Fairy
Blue linear holo with purple shimmer

Moon Fairy is from the Fairy Enchantment mystery box from March 2015, just like Fairies Exist and Enchanted Treasure.

The formula is great and Moon Fairy is practically a one coater. I applied a second coat because that’s the way I roll, but it didn’t make any difference as far as I could see.

Take a look at two coats and no topcoat in the sun:

Please note the cute little charm on the bottle: A little moon fairy!!

Here’s a low light picture. This is such a pleasant blue, I like it a lot!

I decided to test some new glitters I just bought from eBay. They’re from Sally Hansen’s Luc Lace collection.

On my pinkie there’s a layer of Crochet, which is sky blue and white glitter and hexes. On my ring finger and the middle one there’s one coat of Eyelet, which is plain white glitter and hexes. On my pointer there’s a layer of Ruffle, which is black glitter and hexes.

I think they’re all quite nice of the Moon Fairy to be honest.
Here are the polishes:

Moon Fairy was limited edition and is no longer available.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Linear holo with flecks
Overall impression: Really nice polish, good rainbows in the bottle

Glittering Elements ~ Fairies Exist

Glittering Elements ~ Fairies Exist
Sea green with holo shimmer and purple flecks

Fairies Exist is from the Fairy Enchantment mystery box from March 2015. I have tried a fair bit of mystery boxes until now, but this is my first box from Glittering Elements. You don’t get any colour clues with these boxes; only a theme. And what to expect of a fairy theme? I didn’t know, but was positively surprised to find this green, which leans a bit teal in my opinion.

The formula is good and the polish covers good. I used two easy coats for this mani and the drying time is good too.

Let me show you what two coats and no topcoat look like in the sunshine:

It’s a pretty colour, isn’t it!

Here’s a low light picture that reveals the purple flecks. It’s so pretty!

I messed it up a bit. I grabbed another polish from Glittering elements. It’s a sample, #77, 3 out of 4. It’s pink with pink shimmer. I sponged some of that randomly onto my nails, and when that was dry I applied a layer of holo microglitter: P2’s “Just Fantastic”.

Here’s my final mani:

Here is a picture of the polishes I used.

I had a bit of a struggle with this mani. I applied a layer of OPI’s Glitter Off basecoat around my cuticles before I sponged. But I couldn’t really get if off again afterwards. I ended up having to keep my fingers under water for a while to dissolve the basecoat. Weird!

I wasn’t completely happy with my mani either. I’m not quite sure why; sometimes it just doesn’t feel right, you know?

Fairies Exists was limited edition and is no longer available.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Holoshimmer
Overall impression: Nice colour, great formula
