Lacquester ~ The Purpletraitor

Lacquester ~ The Purpletraitor
Purple linear holo

I was a little bit disappointed over the lime green holo from Lacquester I showed you yesterday, so I was very curious about this purple beauty would be.

The first coat went on a little bit streaky, but nothing like yesterday’s polish. The second coat evened out every little flaw, yay! So The Purpletraitor is way more well behaved than its sister! The drying time is good, no issues to report.

Here’s two coats and no topcoat:

These first two pictures are taken with flash. Autumn has hit my part of the world now, and that means less and less sun for each day. *sigh*

I paired it with another Lacquester, namely Winter Wonderland, which is a clear base  with white, purple and blue glitters in various sizes and shapes. I applied one coat on each nail. The glitter spread out evenly and nicely without much of an effort. I topped it with topcoat and here’s my final mani:

It’s also pretty in lower lights:

I’m glad that these two Lacquesters actually behave way better than the one I tried yesterday. I haven’t quite decided if I’m going to give this entire brand a miss or not yet.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Linear holo
Overall impression: Great colour, pretty rainbows.

Lacquester ~ Lime Lizard Larry

Lacquester ~ Lime Lizard Larry
Neon green subtle holo

I don’t very often try new indie-brands any more. Fact is that my collection has grown so much over the last four years that I find it hard to cope with other brands now. But I stumbled over Lacquester’s website recently and decided to give a few of them a go, you know, just because.

I bought three and Lime Lizard Larry is the first to shine on the blog.

The formula was a bit weird. It went on streaky and if I tried to go over the same place with the brush twice it got “lumpy”. I used two coats for my mani but when I look at the pictures I can see I should have used three coats instead. The second layer also went on streaky, it’s so seldom that happens! On the plus side: The drying time was good. :D

Here’s two layers and a layer of topcoat taken with flash:

This is a daylight picture taken in the shade. I love the colour!

I stamped a bamboo motif on them because I thought that would be appropriate. I found the motif on a Fauxnad plate and a I stamped with my faithful Black from NailNation 3000. Here’s my final mani taken with flash:

And here is the picture taken in the shade.

The formula seriously put me off. I can live with a streaky first coat. But the second coat should even it out, and it didn’t. I also wish that the holo effect was more in your face, this is a bit too subtle for such a great colour.

Have you tried Lacquester? If yes, what did you think of the formula? I hope the next one is better than this one :)

Number of coats: 2 but I should have used 3
Drying time: Good
Finish: Subtle holo
Overall impression: Weird formula but great colour
Buy again: Nope

Colors by Llarowe ~ Oxen

Colors by Llarowe ~ Oxen
Burgundy scattered holo

Here’s another beauty from CbL!

The formula is great and the polish glides right on. I used two easy coats for my mani and the drying time is good.

Here’s a picture taken with flash:

Isn’t it just gorgeous!? (that isn’t really a question, haha!)

The low light picture reveals that Oxen is also pretty outside the flashlights.

I made a line and a few dots on each nail with Essence’s Pink & Proud, a metallic baby pink from their Colour & Go-collection. I added a layer of topcoat and here’s my final mani taken with flash:

And here’s the low light picture:

Oxen is really pretty, it’s perfect for Autumn.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Scattered holo
Overall impression: Nice colour also in low lights. Holo effect is a bit subtle.

Watermarble with Catrice, Joe Fresh and China Glaze

Watermarble with Catrice, Joe Fresh and China Glaze
- and a little bit of holo dust in the end

Do you know those mornings where everything goes wrong? I had such a morning and was in a foul mood when I got around to do my nails. That made me hesitate a bit, because my intention was to do a water marble. But seriously: Was that really a good idea? I know how horribly wrong water marbles can go, and I honestly wasn’t in the mood for any fail manis!

I went for it anyway; hooray for stubbornness!

Let me show you the end result first:

Phew! No nail fails today.

The polishes I used was Catrice’s Mrs. Flashdance, which is a metallic green shimmer. It’s a three coater, but I only used two as the base colour. I think this is the first Catrice I have that’s a three coater!

The other green is from Joe Fresh and is called Turquoise. The white is from China Glaze and is called White on White. The topper is Northern Lights from Out the Door, one of my favourite holo glitter toppers.

Here are the polishes I used:

Catrice: Mrs. Flashdance, Joe Fresh: Turquoise, China Glaze: White on White, Out the Door: Northern Lights.

This actually brightened up my mood a little bit. Polishing makes me happy!

Glam Polish ~ Ko Olina

Glam Polish ~ Ko Olina
Teal subtle holo with Rainbow Iridescent flakes and turquoise glass flecks

Ko Olina is from the Rainbow Flakies edition and is limited edition. I am so glad I was able to snatch a bottle! ^_^

The formula is great and the polish covers all visible nail line in two easy coats. the drying time is good.

And this polish is a beauty.

Here’s two coats and a layer of topcoat in the sun:

Wow, right?

Here’s a picture taken in the shade to give an impression of the flakies.

It’s beautiful, that’s all there is to it!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Subtle holo with flakies
Overall impression: I love it!

Glittering Elements ~ OOAK 90

Glittering Elements ~ OOAK 90
Purple holo with a splash of glitter and hexes

OOAK 90 came in a grab bag full of prototypes. You should know by now that prototypes and grab bags is my kryptonite; it’s so exciting to see what’s inside the packages of nail mail!!

The formula of this pretty purple is good. I used two coats for my mani. I was so eager to get some of the glitters and hexes onto my nails so my layers were a bit thick. That made the drying time average. I think I will use thinner coats next time and then live with it if it requires three coats.

Anyway, the sun was on, yay! Here’s two coats and no topcoat:

Isn’t that just a pretty purple? I love this shade.

Here’s a shade picture. You can see a couple of hexes and glitters.

That’s it for today, no nail art :)

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Average
Finish: Holo with glitter
Overall impression: I love the colour and the mix of glitter and holo
Buy again: Yes, if I could

LynBDesigns ~ Okay? Okay

LynBDesigns ~ Okay? Okay
Baby blue linear holo

Okay? Okay is from the Fault in our stars-collection. It’s described as a sky blue linear holo creme polish. I am not sure I quite agree with that description.

The formula is more of a jelly. When I applied the first coat I was sure that this was going to require at least 3 coats. I applied a second coat and it magically covered up the nail line! If you have longer and/or bigger nails than I do, you might need to use 3 coats. The drying time is pretty good.

Here’s a picture taken in the sun; two coats and no topcoat:

It’s Baby blue and much different in colour than the picture shown on LynB’s Etsy-site – click here to see the difference.
This picture is taken in the shadows:

I’m not a huge fan of pale colours like this one, but there are ways to work around that fact: dots! I used two different Gabriella Salvete polishes: Galaxy, which is blue with white glitter – I bought it in Slovenia; and True Love, which is magenta with white glitter – I bought that one in the Czech Republic. I love to dot with these polishes because the white glitter makes it look as if there are little white dots within the dots :D
Here’s a sunshine picture of my final mani:

And this picture is taken in daylight in the shade:

Group photo:

The dots really helped. I can’t help but thinking that my polish has faded though; the colour is so much different than on the pictures in the shop. I wish my polish was the same colour!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Pretty good
Finish: Linear holo
Overall impression: It’s a little pale and I’m not sure I love the formula
Buy again: Probably not

Spring 2015 Trio Collaboration with Color4Nails and Powder Perfect

Spring 2015 Trio Collaboration with Color4Nails and Powder Perfect

Plus one extra bonus!

This spring 2015 trio was limited edition and I was very happy to snatch them all before some of them sold out!

They’re all super glittery, the formula is great and I used two coats plus a layer of topcoat for all my swatches. The polish just glided on, no issues to report at all. The drying time is pretty good.

First one up is Early Light. It’s a deep orange packed with orange and gold glitters. I’m usually not into gold glitter, but this is gorgeous!
Here’s a lightbox picture:

The gold and orange really compliment each other.

This is a sunshine picture. Some of the glitters show themselves as black here but they aren’t. It’s the light that tricks it.

Verdict: Yummy!

Next one up is Summer Horizons. It’s a hot pink packed with microglitters as well. This one really came to life with the topcoat. Here’s the lightbox picture:

I love the sparkles!

The sun really made this shine.

Verdict: I love it.

Last one of the trio is my favourite of the three: Anemone Awakening. It’s purple packed with blue, pink and purple microglitter.

Take a look, isn’t it gorgeous?

I love the various colours of glitter in this.

I couldn’t take a sunshine picture of it, because it started to rain. My flash pictures turned out horribly, so I am not posting any of them. This lovely polish definitely doesn’t deserve ugly pictures! :D

And now for the bonus polish: Faerie. It’s a pink/purple microglitter polish, definitely related to the three other polishes I’ve shown you so far. I used two coats for my mani and a layer of top coat to really bring the glitters to life.
Here it is:

I dig it!

The sunshine picture:

Like I said: The spring trio was limited edition. The orange is still available from Color4Nails, but the other two are sold out both places.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Pretty good
Finish: Microglitter
Overall impression: I love microglitters like these ones
Buy again: Yes to all of them

Glittering Elements ~ Special OOAK 4

Glittering Elements ~ Special OOAK 4
Greyish goldish with pink shimmer

I received Special OOAK 4 in a grab bag full of prototypes. It’s really hard to describe colour-wise, but it’s gold and in some angles grey, and the shimmer is pink.

The formula is good and the polish covers in two coats. the drying time between the layers is good.

First I’ll show you what two layers and no topcoat looks like photographed with flash:

Isn’t that shimmer just amazing? I love it!
This picture is taken in my lightbox. This shows the goldish side, and the pink still peaks through.

I added holo because that’s how I roll. I used Liquid Sky Lacquer’s holo top coat which greys the base colour some, but in this case I really don’t mind that much.

Here’s the Glittering Elements with one layer of LSL’s holo topcoat taken with flash:

I love that the pink still shows itself!

This last picture is taken in the lightbox. The holo top coat has now greyed the gold and turned it into … I am not sure what that colour is called. I didn’t think I would like it, but I do.

I tried to make a gradient with jellies on top of this, but I accidentally dented two of the nails in the clean up process, damn! So I removed it all again because that’s also how I roll! The idea of a gradient over a holo is not dead in my head yet though!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Duochromatic shimmer
Overall impression: The colour is odd but I like the shimmer. I like it the most with a holo topper over

NailNation 3000 ~ #WipeOutTransphobia

NailNation 3000 ~ #WipeOutTransphobia
Purple linear holographic

#WipeOutTransphobia is from the Wipe Out Transphobia collection :D

I love NailNation 3000’s polishes. They’re really good quality so I love each and every one I’ve got.

I experience a bit of dragging when I applied the first coat, but the second coat went on easily. The drying time is good.

Here’s two coats taken with flash:

Wow, right? I love that holo flame!!

Here’s a low light picture. The colour is still really pretty.

I sponged glitter on the tips! I used VooDoo from CrowsToes. It’s a clear base packed with purple and orange glitter in various sizes and shapes. I finished the mani with a layer of topcoat, and here’s the result:

The low light picture reveals more of the pretty glitter.

Holo and glitter! Two things that go so well together in my opinion.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Linear holo
Overall impression: Great polish, good colour and pretty rainbows.
