Emily de Molly ~ Folklore

Emily de Molly ~ Folklore
Turquoise jelly with turquoise holo glitter

I am totally in love with Emily de Molly’s holo polishes, but I must admit that she makes some really cool glitters too. Folklore is turquoise hologlitter in a jelly base and it’s lovely!

The formula is great and the coverage is really good. I used two coats for full opacity and the drying time between the coats is good too. Folklore dries up gritty so if you like textured polishes you can wear it without a topcoat. One layer of topcoat makes all grittiness disappear though.

Here’s what two layers of Folklore and no topcoat looks like:

I love glitters like this one!

Here’s a sunshine picture. The glitters go crazy in the sun!!!

I had a tape mani in mind, but I had an accident with the tape removing some of the glitter so I changed my mind and made a stamping mani instead. I found the thick stripes on Moyou London’s stamping plate Pro Collection XL-01 and I stamped with a black no name stamping polish. I topped the whole thing with a layer of topcoat and here’s my final mani:

And a sunshine picture for you:

Verdict:
Glitter started my nail polish obsession and glitter is still very close to my polish loving heart. A girl can never have too much glitter in her life!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Fast
Finish: Glitter, glitter, glitter. Oh, and glitter! :D
Overall impression: Great colour, great quality, fantastic polish!

OPI ~ Morning, Moneypenny

OPI ~ Morning, Moneypenny
Burgundy magnetic polish with holo microglitter

This is my first ever magnetic polish. That trend never really caught my eye, but I found Morning, Moneypenny at half price and then I couldn’t resist! I love the colour of it, and I thought that if I didn’t like it, I would just use it as a regular polish.

The formula is pretty good, but I must admit that it looked a bit dull when I applied it. I applied one coat on all my nails, and when that was dry I did one nail at a time.

I’m going to show you what my mani ended up looking like, and please just bear in mind that this is my first time ever! :D

The pattern was more visible right after I did the magnet thing. Little did I know that topcoat would remove some of the magnetic effect. Why is that, anyway? That doesn’t really make any sense!

I really like the holo microglitter, it makes this polish more special!

Here’s what it looked like in my lightbox. The pattern reminds me of a dark red galaxy. I think that is cool!

Here’s one last picture of the mani. I didn’t do anything with it, it just stayed like that.

The magnet requires a few words too. It’s a piece of plastic you stick your finger into while the polish is still wet. Then you squeeze the magnet down and hold it there for 5-6 seconds. Make sure it doesn’t touch the nail. Then take your finger out, et voilá: the pattern is there!

Here’s what the magnet looks like:

The pattern suggest that it’s a stripey design, but the pattern that showed up on my nails were more of a ziggy-zaggy or wavy design. Odd.

So, this was my first try with a magnetic. I am not sure I’ll ever be a huge fan. How about you?

Ellagee ~ Lady Penguinia

Ellagee ~ Lady Penguinia
Purplish grey and holographic glitter

Lady Penguinia is another Norway Nails exclusive.

The formula is just as good as I’ve come to expect from Ellagee: Easy to apply, fast drying, pretty…! It takes two coats to achieve desired opacity, and girls, this baby can really shine!

Here’s a sunshine picture of two coats and no topcoat:

I love when there’s holographic glitter involved in glitter polishes!

Here’s a lightbox picture. The polish dries up a bit gritty, but nothing that a good topcoat can’t fix!

If you buy a bottle of Lady Penguinia, you’ll also get a little extra gift: A zip bag with penguin and seashell nail art glitter!

I attached some of the penguins and the seashells onto my nails with topcoat and then applied an additional layer of topcoat to make sure they stayed on.

Here’s my final mani, including topcoat:

Aren’t those penguins just super cute? I think they are!

Verdict:
I love a good glitter and this is a great mix of lilac and holo glitter! I like that it’s not “just silver”, if you know what I mean. Great glitter indeed!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Fast
Finish: Glitter, glitter, glitter. Oh, and glitter! :D
Overall impression:

Love, Angeline ~ Angelicious

Love, Angeline ~ Angelicious
Soft lilac creamy base with rainbow flakes and aqua shimmer

Angelicious is a Norway Nails exclusive. I’m not surprised that it’s lilac and not surprised that the name refers to something with angels either. It’s a very pretty polish.

The formula is thick. I don’t usually mind that but since it’s also got a very fast drying time, I actually thinned it a bit before applying my second coat. It covers really well – it was close to being a one coater, which is unusual for such a light colour. I applied two coats to even everything out, and I also applied a layer of Poshé topcoat before taking my pictures.

Take a look at two coats and a layer of Poshé topcoat:

The shimmer is subtle but oh so pretty!

I could even get it to flash a bit of holo goodness!

I wanted to try out my nail vinyls, so I applied a chevron and painted the tips with Ellagee’s Living Just As Free As My Hair, which is a holographic scattered holo. I can’t get my camera to show it correctly no matter what I do, so the tips aren’t colour correct – the ellagee is a bit lighter than the pictures show.

There’s an additional layer of Poshé topcoat on the following pictures:

The Ellagee is NOT colour accurate!

And one last shot:

The Ellagee is NOT colour accurate!

Verdict:
Angelicious is a very sweet, non offensive polish. The shimmer and the little flakes that makes it special – and I really like that I can get it to flash some pretty rainbows too!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Fast
Durability: Good
Finish: Shimmer and microflakes in a creamy base
Overall impression: Very sweet colour, great base for a lot of nail art, thick quality, super fast drying time.
Buy again: Maybe

Ooh La Lacquer ~ Perfect Storm, Lady Scarlet and Blu Radley

Ooh La Lacquer ~ Perfect Storm, Lady Scarlet and Blu Radley
Holo swatches

After wearing Ooh La Lacquer’s Regal Knievel yesterday I felt in the mood to wear the remaining three sisters. I decided to swatch them – both to get them into the Helmer but also to check if some of them need to be passed on to better homes.

I started out with Perfect Storm, which is a light blue strong linear holo. It’s the sheerest of the bunch, I needed three coats before I got rid of the visible nail line. The drying time between the coats is average.

The sun was shining, which is just perfect when you want to show off your holos :D

Take a look at what 3 coats and no topcoat look like in the sunshine:

Isn’t that just pretty? The sun went behind a cloud, and I snapped another pic.

And here’s what it looked like in my lightbox.

Verdict:
I love the holo effect, but I must admit that it’s a tad too baby blue for my likings. This will probably find a nice and more appreciating home soon.

Next one is is Lady Scarlet. She is a pink leaning polish with mixed linear and scattered holo effect.

The formula is good, and two coats is what it takes to make it opaque. Drying time is average, like her sisters.

Here’s what two coats and no topcoat look like in the sun:

Here’s another picture. Look how the holo effect kind of mixes together.

Here’s a low light picture. The rainbows are still visible.

Verdict:
Lady Scarlet was the one that surprised me the most. When I saw the bottle in real life, I didn’t think I would like the polish on at all. But seriously, this really grew on me! Thumbs up – Lady Scarlet gets to stay for a while!

Last one up is Blu Radley, a blue leaning purple linear holo.

Same good formula as the rest of them, and I used two coats for my swatches. Drying time is average, no surprise there.

Here’s what that beauty looks like in the sunshine:

I love this, I think it’s gorgeous!

And here’s a lightbox picture. The rainbows are still there and I still love the colour.

Verdict:
This is my favourite of the bunch.  I love the colour and the fact that it’s both pretty in and out of the sunshine. This one definitely gets to stay!

Ooh La Lacquer ~ Regal Knievel

Ooh La Lacquer ~ Regal Knievel
Purple strong linear holo

I have been impressed with all of the few Ooh La Lacquers I’ve seen swatches of so far. Regal Knievel is a fantastic purple, and I’ve been looking forward to trying it on!

Application was easy, no problems with dragging or bald spots whatsoever. And no special aqua basecoat is required; any base coat will work with this baby. It takes two coats to achieve full opacity, and the drying time between the coats is average.

I had sunshine, yay! So I can really show you all the gorgeous rainbows!

Here’s two coats and no topcoat in the sun:

I feel tempted to say “Ooh la la!” :D

The colour is also cool in lower light. It doesn’t turn dusty, and the rainbows still shine!

My sweet boyfriend suggested a beehive stamp for it, so that’s what I went for. I found it on Moyou London’s Pro Collection-02. I used that dark blue shimmer from Bourjois called “Bleu Moonlight” as my stamping polish. That just worked! Here’s a sunshine picture before I applied topcoat:

And another one! I love the dark blue over this. Black would have been too much darkness, but this works.

Here’s a pic taken in my lightbox.

I am so pleased, both with the pretty polish and with the mani as a whole. I really like holos that also work in the shade, and all nail stamps that are open like this one are just me. So yes, this mani works on all levels.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Average
Finish: Strong holo
Overall impression: Great colour, fantastic holo!

Gloss n Sparkle ~ Harlot

Gloss n Sparkle ~ Harlot
Burgundy with a very fine red glitter sparkle and subtle holographic glimmers

I don’t own many Gloss N Sparkle polishes, but I like the few ones I’ve got. So when I saw this beauty online I didn’t hesitate buying it.

The formula is good and so is the drying time. I used two coats and was happy with that. I can see that my camera would have loved a third coat, but it also has a tendency to pick up things that you can’t see with the naked eye!

Anyway – I applied a layer of topcoat, and then I took my pictures.

This picture is taken with flash to make the holo sparkle show. It’s subtle but it’s there.

And the sun was shining too, I am a lucky girl today!!

I decided to go holo crazy! I found a stamping design on Moyou London’s stamping plate “Back to the 80’s-04” and I stamped with Color Club’s Cloud Nine, which is a pink extreme holo. Here’s what my final mani looks like:

Yes, that’s what I like innit dahlin!

And here’s a lightbox picture. This is also pretty in lower lights!

I ended up liking this mani a lot!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Fast
Durability: Good
Finish: Delicious shimmer
Overall impression: I love the colour and the finish. This is such a cool polish.

Venique ~ Hot Date, San Tro Play and Heels of Dazzle

Venique ~ Hot Date, San Tro Play and Heels of Dazzle
Swatches

I got these Venique lacquers in a swap with a Canadian girl, and they’ve been sitting for a long time, waiting to be swatched. Well, it’s time!

Let me start with a pink crème, Hot Date. It looks pretty ordinary in the bottle, so let’s see if it gets to stay with me or what.

Application was a dream, no less, and the drying time was fast. Two good features in a polish! It takes two coats to make it opaque, and I must admit that even though it’s “just a pink”, then I must admit that it took be by surprise: It’s really pretty!

Take a look, here’s two coats, no topcoat:

It’s a really nice pink, don’t you think?

Let me show you how it looks in the sun too. I was surprised to see a tiny wee bit of blueish shine to it!

“Hot Date” stays with me for sure, she’s beautiful!

Next one up is “San Tro Play”, a purple shimmer. It looks quite mild and inoffensive in the bottle to be honest. Application and drying time are equally good as with Hot Date. Coverage too: Two coats is what it takes. It does look a little bit brush stroky on the pictures, but that didn’t show at all in real life.

Here’s two coats, no topcoat:

Again: This is much nicer on the nails than the bottle suggests.

One last shot:

This one gets to stay as well!

Last one up is “Heels of Dazzle”, a clear base with red hexagons. It’s a topper – there’s no way you can make this opaque on its own. So I applied one coat of a red polish: Golden Rose Matte Satin #204 as my base colour.

Then I applied a layer of Heels of Dazzle over the red base. I had to dab the glitters around to place them of the nails, and kept getting way too much of the clear base on the brush.

You know the rule: One dip in the bottle per nail. Here’s what my mani ended up looking like:

I like red on red, it’s good for the eyes!

The final shot:

I don’t think this one gets to stay with me for much longer. I mean, I like red glitter, but then again, I have so many red glitters.

I think Venique is a Canadian salon brand – which is probably why we don’t see it much out here in blog land. It’s a shame really, because the polishes I have tried seem really nice. So if any Canadian girls out there can get their hands on Venique polishes and want to swap with me, please don’t hesitate to contact me on rainbowifyme@gmail.com. Thanks!
