Layering Avon, Dona Mirelle and Golden Rose

Just another layering experience

I was in the mood for another layering experience with some of the polishes from my infamous box of untrieds.

I started out with Avon’s “Night Violet” which is a deep purple-based burgundy with blue shimmer. A gorgeous vampy polish for sure. The fomula is a bit thin but it still only took two coats to make it opaque, which was cool. Drying time is average.

Here’s what Night Violet looks like without topcoat:

Check out the shimmer – isn’t she just pretty as?

I added a coat of Dona Mirelle’s L10. It might also have a number, but all the text on the back side of the polish is in Russian, so I can’t read it. Anyway, it’s a silver/holo microglitter. It’s not really a topper, but I used it as such, ‘cause that’s the kinda girl I am. It does cover quite a deal of the original polish underneath it. Take a look:

I like the holo effect it added and also that it toned the darkness of the Avon down. That sounded better in my head, but you know what I mean.

Time for gliddah! I found a purple glitter from Golden Rose’s Carnival collection. It’s number 08, and it’s purple, and it’s glitter in various sizes & shapes, including shreds and bar glitter. Interesting mix for sure. I added one coat over my existing mani, and here’s the final result for today:

I quite like the mix!

Do you ever layer just for the sheer heck of it? :)

Moyra Vivid Sand ~ Neons

Moyra Vivid Sand ~ Neons
Swatches

Some of you might remember that recently I was on vacation in Hungary, and that I brought pretty polishes home with me.

Moyra is a brand that’s new to me, but they had SO many pretties! I want to show you three of them today: Three neon textures! It sounds good already, don’t it?

I’ll start out with 713 Sunflower. It’s a neon yellow with silver microglitter.
The formula is good and application is easy. I used two coats for my swatches and the drying time is average.

Here’s a picture I took in the sun:

The sun made the camera freak out a little bit, so here’s an indoor shot of the same thing:

The sand effect is little “dots” in the polish, I like that.

I made simple black stripes on it. Here’s how freaky that looks:

The reason I made black stripes is that I’ve got this song “Black and Yellow” by Wiz Khalifa in my head, and I just can’t get it out again. So yeah… black and yellow, black and yellow, black and yellow…(uh oh, the boyfriend’s eyes just rolled way back... ;) )

Next one up is 712 Summer Green. It’s a neon green texture with silver microglitter. Same good formula, same easy application, same average drying time.

Here’s your sunshine picture first:

This is just a crazy green!

I love the silver microglitter; I think it makes my nails look like they’re dipped in sugar.

I made one neon yellow dot by the base of each nail. I just used the neon yellow I just swatched above, because I like yellow and green together.

I don’t have any song for this colour, sorry :D (Hmmm. The boyfriend just started humming ‘Mineral’ by Buffalo Tom. Perhaps he’s taking notice after all :) )

Last one up is 711 Party Pink, my favourite of the bunch. It’s the in yer face pink that I really love and it has also got the addition of silver microglitter: Score!

Same formula and application, same two coats and same average drying time and yada yada yada :D Enough talk, here’s two coats in the sun:

And low light picture:

I mean, look at that microglitter!!

I didn’t do anything with this, so just enjoy this last picture of it.

Verdict, all three of them: Seriously, I’m impressed. I love the fact that I have three textured neons that don’t require underwear. I love that the colours are all in your face. And I love that they were so cheap :D I’m already looking forward to trying more of my Moyra polishes!

NailNation 3000 ~ Eternal Love

NailNation 3000 ~ Eternal Love
Dark pink linear holo

I’ve become very fond of NailNation’s polishes. Cool holo effects in great colours, and there’s nothing wrong with the formula either!

Eternal Love is a lovely deep pink, and the formula is great. I used two easy coats for my pictures, and the drying time between the coats is good.

Take a look at two coats, no topcoat, picture is taken in the sunshine:

Is that lovely or what??

Here’s a low light picture for you. The rainbows are still visible and beautiful.

I used a Dance Legend holo for effects. It’s number 8 from the Shining Rainbow-collection. I used a striper brush and made short stripes on all the nails. This is what my mani ended up looking like.

One last sunshine picture:

Verdict:
Yes! Just yes!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Durability: Good
Overall impression: Good quality polish, great colour, fabulous rainbows!

Dance Legend WOW Prism ~ Just Another Star (#30)

Dance Legend WOW Prism ~ Just Another Star (#30)
Purple glass fleck holo

I’m happy to feature another one of my pretty polishes from Dance Legend’s  WOW Prism collection. ‘Just Another Star’ is purple and quite as pretty as all its sisters.

The formula is good and application is easy. I used two coats but my camera would have loved it more if I had used three. Drying time is good, no worries in that department.

No sun, so here’s a flash picture of two coats and no topcoat:

I love that the holo effect changes colours and goes from pink to blue, it’s so cool!

I decided to pair it up with a Nabi Hologram polish called 06 Ocean Blue. It’s a gorgeous holographic turquoise. I taped my nails diagonally across and painted half my nails with the Nabi. I topped it with a layer of topcoat and here’s what my final mani ended up looking like – flash pic:

I quite like the way the two holo effects look together!

This is a low light picture:

I so thrilled that I ended up putting these two pretties together, I think they match each other perfectly!

Number of coats: 2 (3 would have been better)
Drying time: Fast
Finish: Crelly with holo flecks
Overall impression: I’m impressed with this entire collection. Great polishes!

Lilypad Lacquer ~ Frogs Alive

Lilypad Lacquer ~ Frogs Alive
Acid green strong linear holo

It’s been a while since I featured a Lilypad Lacquer on my blog, so it’s that time again. It’s actually also been a while since I purchased any of them. Frogs Alive is my latest buy and today – right here, right now - it’s time for it to flash its rainbows!

Application was easy because the formula is good. It takes two coats to make this look its best and the drying time is good.

No sun available that day, so here’s two coats and no topcoat, taken with flash:

The rainbows are pretty kerrazy in Frogs Alive....
And so is the colour.

I ♥ rainbows!

Here is a low light picture:

I didn’t quite know what to do with this so I ended up with dots – again :D
I made three white dots on each nail and when that was dry I made a green glitter dot on each of the white dots.
My white is a Savina called Fantasy Files, and the green glitter is from McFresh and is called Lady Scales. I applied a layer of topcoat when the dots were dry. Here’s my final mani:

A last shot:

I couldn’t quite decide if I liked this or not. I am not sure why… perhaps it’s because the green is a little bit outside my comfort zone. Or maybe I should have added a darker colour too, that might have helped.

Do you like it?

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Fast
Durability: Good
Removal: No problems
Overall impression: Crazy colour with crazy rainbows.
Buy again: Yes

Liquid Sky Lacquer ~ Raspberry Dawn

Liquid Sky Lacquer ~ Raspberry Dawn
Bright berry pink extreme holo

Berry coloured pink? Yes please. Holo? Oh yes. Extreme holo? Hell yeah! Raspberry Dawn is the answer! And with a name I like! How good can it get?

The formula is good and the application was easy. Two coats is what it took to achieve full opacity and the drying time was also good. And - the sun shone down on me, yay!

Here’s Raspberry Dawn in all its glory:

If I flick my fingers a little bit the polish shows another one of its lovely facets! Pretty, yes?!

It’s more calm and collected out of the sunshine. Here’s a low light picture – check out those rainbows that just refuse to stay away from my nails! <3

I stamped on it with two different polishes. I chose a pink from Moyou (note: not ‘Moyou London’, just ‘Moyou’ – they’re two quite different companies – it’s very confusing)...and a berry coloured from Gosh called Berry Me. I picked a tiger striped motif from Moyou London (!) from the stamping plate Back to the 80’s-04. And this is not the last time I’ll stamp with two colours at the same time! Look how pretty pink and pink on pink looks:

Low light picture:

Here are the three polishes I used:

The more I look at my nails, the more I love how it turned out.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Durability: Good
Finish: Crazy linear holo
Overall impression: Jeez Louise, this is just a beautiful crazy holo!

Models Own ~ Sardonyx

Models Own ~ Sardonyx
Blood scarlet red

Sardonyx is from the Velvet Goth Collection. It’s dark red and it’s packed with tiny glitters.

The formula is a little bit thick which makes it a challenge to paint close to the cuticles, but I managed OK. I can live with edges that aren’t totally sharp :D Drying time between the coats is good and it took me two coats to achieve desired opacity. I’ve read that this is almost a one coater - but no, it isn’t in my book. Actually my camera would have loved me to apply a third coat, but two coats is enough for the human eye to be satisfied.

The polish dries up dull and flat – hence the “velvet” in the collection name. I don’t like my pretties to be dull, so I applied a layer of topcoat, et voíla: All the glitter went shiny and pretty again!

Here’s two coats plus a layer of topcoat:

The polishes in this collection all have colour-matching fuzzy velvet lids. The polishes doesn’t get the velvet feel though, just the (in my opinion) dull look.

Simplicity is what I was in the mood for. So I grabbed a pink holo Lilypad Lacquer called “Pink Sugar” and made three dots on each nail.

Here’s what my final mani ended up looking like:

One last picture just because I can:

I got this polish in a swap event I went to with a bunch of other girls. We had a great time and all came home with fine new polishes :)

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Fast
Durability: N/A
Finish: Jelly packed with microglitter
Overall impression: Red glitter is my kryptonite! I love polishes like this!

El Corazón Prisma ~ #29

El Corazón Prisma ~ #29
Moss green scattered holographic

This Prisma collection from El Corazón is really something. This is the last one I’ve got for now, but I’m sure more of them will find their way into my collection.

The formula is good, and application is easy. (What a lovely sentence that is to write!! J ) It takes two coats to achieve full opacity and the drying time between the coats is also good.

I didn’t have any sunshine (Boo!! Hiss!!), so you’ll have to make do with a couple of flash pictures. Here’s two coats and no topcoat:

I love the way the scattered holo effect makes the polish almost glow from within.

Here is a low light picture that shows the true colour of the polish:

I added glitter, because glitter makes good things even better. I used a multicoloured, multisized, multishaped, multipass glitter from Rhyming Dictionaries called “Nome King”. I just dabbed the glitter down the middle of my nails and when that was dry I applied a layer of topcoat. Here’s my final mani taken with flash:

And here’s a low light picture:

I love holo and glitter together, it’s like the best of both worlds having a party together on my nails.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Fast
Finish: Scattered holo
Overall impression: I am so impressed with the Prisma collection. Good quality, nice colours, easy to work with. Score!
