Trend ~ #03

Trend ~ #03
Deep magenta with shimmer

This polish sat in my box of shame untried until my boyfriend noticed it. He took it out of the box and stated: “That’s pretty!” – I could hear that what he really meant was “Why is this in the box of shame?” And I couldn’t give a proper explanation to that, so I took it out of the box again. I thought I would at least give it a chance to shine for a bit.

The formula is good and the polish is easy to apply. It dries fast and almost covers in one single coat. The second coat did complete the job though. The colour is pretty, even though the shimmer isn’t prominent. The polish has got one downside: It smells. Not as bad as Kleancolor, but it doesn’t smell good.

Here’s what two coats and one layer of topcoat looks like in the lightbox:

I made a stamping gradient on it. I found a great motif on my XL stamping plate “B” and I stamped with Moyou (not Moyou London) stamping polishes in white and blue. I applied a layer of Poshé topcoat and here’s my final mani taken in the sunlight:

I really like the effect of the stamping gradient, I think it’s super cool!

I also like these three colours together.

Verdict:
I don’t think Trend #03 will go back to the box of shame. I like it, despite the bad smell :D
The wear was fantastic too. I took it off after five days, and it still looked like the day I put it on. Amazing!!

MAC ~ Formidable!

MAC ~ Formidable!
Purple/blood red/blue multichromatic shimmer

I haven’t seen many bloggers showing off MAC polishes, and I’ve heard rumours that it’s because the quality can’t justify the relatively high price on the tag. I couldn’t resist this shimmer though, so I bought it and brought it home, and have had it for a couple of months. And today it’s time to try it out.

The formula is pretty good, and the polish dries fast too. I needed three coats before I was satisfied though, and looking at the sunshine pic it could have used a fourth. But the shimmer is beautiful. And what looks like only blue/purple in the bottle, reveals itself as blood red when it hits the sunshine. Let me show you what I’m talking about!

three coats, no topcoat

Blood red with blue shimmer – I don’t think I’ve ever seen a colour combo like this one.

When I take it inside my light box it tells a completely different story though. Now it suddenly only flashes its blues and purples:

It’s a spectacular colour shifter:

I didn’t know what to do with it though :/  So I ended up adding a layer of iridescent glitter from Trend, #39. The glitter also contains silver stars and blue hearts. Not many, so fishing is required.

Here’s the final result:

And a final pic:

I don’t like this as much as I thought I would, to be honest. I mean, I really like the colour shift and stuff, but it’s just not quite right – you know what I mean?

I don’t like that Trend polish at all. It smells horrible and I don’t like fishing that much after the pretty stuff. Just N O, OK?

Summer Challenge Day 3: Yellow

Summer Challenge Day 3: Yellow

Yellow nails. Ugh. Probably the biggest challenge of them all, and the one that I was looking forward to the least. Thank god it’s so early on in the challenge so we can get it over and done with.

I used OPI “Fiercely Fiona” which I received in a swap, and is from the Shrek collection of spring 2010. It’s a polish that doesn’t quite know if it wants to be yellow or green, in my opinion, and really: It’s not my colour at all. But never mind, let’s see how it goes.

I applied three coats of Fiercely Fiona, and I honestly didn't like it much :D It was streaky, didn't cover very well and it took forever to dry.

Here’s how that looked without top coat:

And from another angle:

After that I decided to apply some glitter, because there’s nothing like glitter to save a mani! I chose a yellow glitter with stars from Trend Accessories. It’s a cheap polish and it smells really weird, but it’s perfect for Fiona.

Here’s one thick coat over the yellow:

I didn’t go fishing for the stars, and that means I ended up with none. But that’s alright – this mani didn’t last long anyway! :)

I didn’t apply topcoat, because this glitter is really shiny in itself, and it doesn’t dry up gritty at all. A good buy, if you ask me!

You should check out these other Danish girls’ blogs to see what they came up with for yellow nails:

Stay tuned the day after tomorrow - same bat time, same bat channel - for green nails!
