Summer Challenge Day 8: Metallic

I chose a German polish for today’s challenge, namely a P2 called “So Cool”. It’s a vibrant blue with an almost metallic finish. I like the formula of P2’s polishes. This one is quite well pigmented, and could maybe have been a one coater, had I applied a thicker coat. But I applied two coats, and was quite satisfied with the opaqueness. At some point soon I think I’ll try using it as a stamping polish as well.

Enough already with the talking, here’s how 2 coats of “So Cool” looks like without a top coat:

Isn’t that just hugely shiny? Drying time is really good too – so this was quite a quick mani!

I stamped on it, using a no name silver polish and stamping plate M37 from Mash. I stamped the arrows (or whatever they are) randomly on each nail.

Clear base packed with light blue and silver glitter

I’ve been in love with the brand L A Girl for a while, and when I saw there was a brand called LA Splash and that they actually made glitters, I just knew I had to try them. I bought four, of which this one is the first.

The formula was great and it covered perfectly and easily in two coats. It actually covered after the first coat, but it definitely adds to the colour depth if you add a second coat, so I can only recommend that. Drying time was not as fast as with some glitters, but definitely on the acceptable side.

Here is a picture of it taken in the sun, so you can really see the shine. There’s no top coat on this pic:

And here’s a pic from the light box. There’s one coat of Poshé top coat over the mani at this point. The polish dries up pretty gritty, and it takes two layers of top coat to smooth it out. I saved layer two till after the stamping…

I used a stamping plate from Red Angel called RA120, and I used a no name polish from Bornprettystore called “Suzy skis in the Pyrenees”, which is a deep, velvety purple with a suede finish.

Here is the finished mani, all sealed up with a generous coat of Poshé top coat.

How’s that? I think the purple and the light blue go quite well together.

Black and white. The monochromatic classics. I knew I needed to do some stamping for todays challenge.

I started out with two coats of white crème, namely Models Own “Snow White”. It probably could have used another coat, but I kept it at two. There’s no pic of that – everybody know what a white crème polish looks like :D

Then I stamped on it. I used Essence “Black is back!” which isn’t originally a stamping polish, but it works really well. I used Konad’s stamping plate M73, the musical design, which I’ve been eyeing since I got the plate.

Then I sealed it all up with a layer of Poshé top coat: 

That particular top coat doesn’t usually smudge my stamps, but it did today, humph! *Puts on annoyed face*

I quite like this. I considered applying a coat of Fairy Dust over it, but - nah… it’s fine as it is, don’t you think?

Purple jelly with a lighter shade of microshimmer

I got this polish in a swap with sweet Katee from “A Girl and her Polish”, and I am very happy that I asked her if she could find this beauty for me. Purple is my favourite colour nail polish, and this is such a great shade.

What I didn't know when I asked her to please find it for me it that it’s a jelly – not my favourite finish. But the formula was actually okay. And drying time was on the fast side, so I ended up applying two thick coats. If you prefer thin coats, you need at least three coats to achieve opaqueness.

The sun was out, so I snapped a pic to show how shiny it is. Here are two coats, no top coat:

Isn’t that shine just amazing? Here’s a light box pic, where you can see the shimmer. I really like the shimmer in this polish. Still no top coat.

Then I decided to give Nubar’s “Pink Dot” a try before shipping it off to my friend Doctor S Fierceness in a swap. Pink Dot had been sitting unnoticed in my stash for so long that I decided that someone else could probably show it some more love than I’ve been doing. Pink Dot is a sheer pink base with multisized holographic glitters.

Here’s one coat of Pink Dot on top of “I love you”. It’s a sunshine picture and there’s still no top coat involved.

I dunno about this. I think it looks good, but still, it’s as if something’s missing, and I can’t figure out what it is… 

... so I gave it a coat of Jesse's Girl "Confetti", which is pink and turquoise bars in a clear base.

Summer Challenge Day 6: Violet

I had actually been looking forward to violet, because purple is my favourite colour nail polish. Then I realized that violet and purple aren’t the same colours… Damn!

So I thought I’d make this mani a little bit festive. I wanted to try out Kleancolor’s “Sparkle Purple”, which is a clear base with violet and purple glitters. I decided to layer it over another polish, since I could see it would take quite a lot of layers to make it opaque, and Kleancolor isn’t exactly known for making quick dry polishes!

So I applied two coats of Hot Makeup’s “Purple Rain Drops”. I thought it was a metallic kind of polish, but it turned out to be a jelly. Ugh! Anyway – it was “only underwear”, so I thought it would be alright.

Two coats, no top coat:

Then for the glitter. I applied two coats of “Sparkle Purple” and waited what seemed like forever. I even applied a couple of drops of Essence “Nail Art express dry drops”, but little did it help. After an hour it still wasn’t dry. Ah well.

Here is two coats of “Sparkle Purple” over two coats of “Purple Rain Drops”.

I am so disappointed over this mani, and I hate being disappointed over glitters. But it’s so not what I had in mind.

Nail Mail from Japan

Hi girls,

Yes, I got nail mail all the way from Japan. I asked Tera from Nails in Nippon if she was interested in doing a swap with me, but since she was moving back to the US from Japan shortly after, she offered to go shopping for me instead. And I am very happy with that arrangement, because this means I suddenly had access to brands from Japan. 

Here's what met my eyes when I had ripped the box open:

Summer Challenge Day 5: Blue

I’m coming to like blue nail polishes more and more, each time I wear them. It’s nice when it is like that!

For today’s challenge I used Rimmel “Blue Eyed Girl” as my base colour. It’s a sky blue crème that’s opaque in one coat only. I applied to coats anyway, just because I wanted to make sure I hadn’t missed any spots in the first layer.

It dries really fast – I like that in a polish.

Two easy coats, no top coat just yet:

I don’t wear polishes like this one on its own. I chose to spice it up with a glitter, namely “Dorothy Who?” from China Glaze’s “Wizard of Ooh Ahz” collection from 2009. I love this blue glitter!

I decided that just layering it over the Blue Eyed Girl would be boring, so I used one of my new striper brushes, and made vertical stripes on all the nails.

I sealed it all up with a layer of China Glaze Fast Forward top coat, which does dry really fast, but man, that’s the weirdest smelling top coat I’ve got!!

NYX ~ Be Jewelled and Pink Glitter

NYX ~ Be Jewelled meets Pink Glitter  

Seagreen packed with golden shimmer meets iridescent glitter in various sizes

These NYX polishes are the “advanced salon formula”. I must admit that I thought “Yeah right”, but after having tried them myself, I realize that there is actually a difference. The formula is smoother on these ones than on the regular polishes, the smell is much better and the drying time is better too. Not perfect, but close.

First shot of Be Jewelled, which covered perfectly in two easy coats. I was so lucky that the sun was out! Check out that shimmer – is that crazy or what?!

Here’s another picture, taken in my light box. There’s no top coat involved just yet.

On to the next polish. I wasn’t in the mood for stamping or other kinds of nail art, but even the most shimmery polish gets better with a bit of glitter. Pink Glitter is a clear base with iridescent glitter in various sizes. I didn’t realize that it actually has little stars in as well, until I saw them on the brush. I wasn’t interested in the stars today, so I made sure that they stayed in the bottle. Inverted fishing, if you like :D

Here’s one coat of Pink Glitter on top of Be Jewelled. The picture is taken in the sun again.

 

The iridescent glitter kind of drowns in the sun because it’s just too glittery, but I can assure you that it’s there.

I just love this. And I’ll be checking out more NYX Advanced Salon Formula polishes for sure!

Summer Challenge Day 4: Green

Summer Challenge Day 4: Green

Green takes up quite a lot of room in my stash, so it wasn’t easy to pick which one(s) to use for this challenge. I ended up with two polishes from H&M, a shimmer and a glitter.

H&M polishes are either very good or very bad. It’s as if there’s nothing in between when it comes to their products, so I was quite excited to figure out what kind these polishes were.

I applied two coats of Atlantic, and that is one of the good polishes! Great pigmentation, great formula, great coverage. I’m impressed!

Here’s two coats, no top coat: 

And from another angle:

Now for the glitter. It’s called Aqua Splash – cool name! And luckily, another of H&M’s good products. It’s green and teal glitter in a clear base and it applies easily. It wasn’t necessary to dap with the brush or use other tricks to spread the glitter out.

I applied one coat over the Atlantic: 

And I finished it all up with a generous coat of Essence Gel-look topcoat, which takes forever to dry! :|

So there you have it: My green nails!
