OPI Water Marble

OPI Water Marble
An attempt on a blue, red and white water marble

I have only done two water marbles in my life and none of them went very well. I’m not going to lie to you: This one didn’t either. But it was at least better than the previous two I did.

This time I use demineralised water, and that seems to help the polish actually spread in the water. That’s a huge plus.

I used OPI Alpine Snow as my base colour, and started with one coat of that on my nails before starting on the actual water marble.

When that was dry I started on the marble. I used OPI Alpine Snow, OPI Unfor-Greta-bly Blue and OPI Let Me Entertain you. They all spread out on the water really well; I was SO pleased!

I’m apparently not very good at drawing patterns in water though :D But anyway, I’ve written before that I’m going to post my fails too, so that’s what I’m going to do today :)

Are you ready? Okay, here goes:

The topcoat smudged my “design” and the tape was all over the place, also on the polish, argh! :D

I like the pattern on the thumbnail best, I think the other lines are too thin for me to actually like them. I did exactly the same way of dripping polish into the water for each nail, so I don’t know why the thumb turned out different than the others <puzzled>

I’m obviously not really happy with this, but I am pleased with the fact that it turned out better than last time. That means that I’m encouraged to try it again, which is a great thing!

Please be gentle when you comment!

  2. Great choices of colors! Bummer your top coat smudged the designs, but your thumb turned out really well! :)

  3. The color combination is great, and actually I think thin lines is unusual and fun. I like watermarbling, it's fun to do, even though the result differs a lot. Maybe that's actually an advantage. You set out for something and something else results, that surprise you. :-)

    1. I'm not keen on the water marbling yet, because I don't really seem to get anything really pretty out of it. But I'll give it one more go, just because! :)

  4. I think its a nice try and I like the color combination :)

I have discovered that Essie's newer polishes is actually quite good for watermarbling :) I have trouble with all other brands (even OPI), but essie seems to work for me :)

    1. I don't own many Essie polishes, but I'll include at least one in my next attempt - thanks for the advice :)
