From the Disney movie Frozen: Elsa

From the Disney movie Frozen: Elsa

I am quite the fan of Disney movies! And I really love the movie Frozen, so I was thrilled when I received these three Funky Finger polishes in a swap recently: Elsa, Anna and Olaf:

Elsa, Anna & Olaf

Yes! Yes! Yes!

I decided to make three different manis dedicated to these three figures of the movie. The first one I made was Elsa. She looks like this in the movie:

Elsa

And here’s my Elsa mani in the sun:

Pahlish’s Electric Boots is my base colour. It’s a lovely blue linear holographic packed with golden shimmer.

On my tips is another Pahlish: Train Underwater. It’s a blue jelly base with blue and green glitters. I sponged it on with an eyeshadow applicator. And on top of the whole thing: The Funky Finger Elsa, which is a tinted blue base with base blue and white glitters and hexagons in various sizes. There are also little snowflakes in the mix, but I didn’t get any of them on the brush and I didn’t fish for them.

This picture is taken in the lightbox. It’s almost even lovelier.

Here’s what Pahlish “Electric Boots” looks like on its own in the sunlight.

And here are the three polishes I used. If you take a closer look on Electric Boots on the left you can see all the golden shimmers.

I must admit I’m really pleased with this. I can’t wait to make the next character, which is going to be Anna. Stay tuned! :)

CrowsToes ~ One Trick Pony

CrowsToes ~ One Trick Pony
Purple to green duochromatic linear holographic

One Trick Pony is from the One Mad, Crazy Summer collection from summer 2013. That means it’s been sitting in my box of untrieds for over a year. I’ll tell you more about that later.

But first: The formula is good, and the polish applies easily. It covers well in two coats and the drying time between the coats is good. No bad things to report at all.

Here’s what the polish looks like. Two coats, no topcoat, picture taken with flash:

It looks pretty cool, don’t you think? Here’s another shot:

I also took a picture in ordinary daylight. I wasn’t able to capture the colour shift – and to be honest it wasn’t that obvious in real life either.

It looks sooo nice on pictures, but I’ll be honest with you: I wasn’t really that impressed with it once it was on. I decided to spice it up with glitter dots. I used a green glitter from Essence from the Effect collection. It’s called Party in a Bottle and I made three dots on each nail. I sealed it up with topcoat, and here’s my final mani:

And here’s a low light picture.

Meh.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Fast
Finish: holographic duochrome
Overall impression: The idea of a duochromatic holographic is great but I think the two colours are a bit dull.
Buy again: No

Ellagee ~ Heebee GEEbee Pumpkin

Ellagee ~ Heebee GEEbee Pumpkin
Orange scattered holo

Heebee GEEbee Pumpkin is a Facebook fangroup exclusive, it was limited edition and can no longer be bought, sorry about that. When I saw it first I knew it would never be my favourite Ellagee polish, but I’m a sucker for exclusives and limited editions, so there you have it. The polish was made in two versions: One pure orange, such as I bought, and the same orange with black glitter in it. I didn’t like the look of the black glitter and was thrilled when it was offered without it.

Anyway, back to the polish. The formula is good and easy to apply. I wasn’t very careful with application though so I had to use three coats before I was satisfied. On a good day I’d say that two coats is enough. Drying time is okay. I applied a layer of topcoat before I took my pictures.

Here’s three coats and a layer of topcoat – the picture is taken in the sunshine.

I like the way the polish glows in the sun.

I mean – look at this:

I’ll show you why this won’t ever be one of my favourite Ellagees. Here’s what it looks like in ordinary daylight:

See? Bear in mind that I’m not an autumn-colour kinda gal, then you’ll probably understand what I mean. It’s nice, but it’s not really my hue. I love it nonetheless because it’s special!

Anyway – I tried to make some nail art on it, but failed. I have seen some really cool sponging on other blogs – where girls take a bit of sponge and dab polish on while holding the sponge with tweezers, but that really isn’t as easy as it looks. I failed miserably and removed the whole thing before even finishing :D

Number of coats: 3
Drying time: Okay
Finish: Scattered holo
Overall impression: I like the quality of Ellagee’s polishes as a rule.
Buy again: Yes – because it’s a special. Not if it was in the core line of polishes

A2Z Challenge: E is for Elegant

Elegance is in the eye of the beholder, isn’t it? I think laces are elegant, so I have included laces in my design for the challenge: Elegant.

Here’s my elegant mani:

The base colour is Emerald Aisle from Cupcake Polish. It’s a limited edition polish from the Sweet Additions Box from November 2014. It’s a great green holo, which I showed you here. I stamped it with a lacy design from the stamping plate hehe018 which I bought off Aliexpress. The rose on my ring finger is on the same plate. I finished it all off with some stones.

I really like the way the holo peeks through the lace design!

Next week’s challenge is Fashion. It’ll be fun to come up with something for that.

Take a look at the elegant designs the other girls came up with:

Darling Diva ~ Living on the Edge

Darling Diva ~ Living on the Edge
Purple holo with multichrome microshimmer

Living one the Edge is a beautiful polish that can only be bought from Edgy Polish. It took me a while to buy this, because at some point I felt I had a lot of purples. I don’t know what I was thinking – this polish is a beauty!

The formula is good and I used two coats for desired opacity. If you have long nails you might want to use three coats to even out irregularities. Drying time is good, no worries there.

Take a look at two coats and a layer of topcoat:

Look at that magnificent microshimmer!

Pretty purple in the shade too.

I made a dotticure! I used another Darling Diva, Rose Diamond, for the dots. I intended to make a pattern but I need to realize that my nails are a bit too small to make sense with patterns, haha. This is supposed to be dotted “V”s on the nails :D

A daylight picture:

Oh man, these are just gorgeous together!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Holo with multichromatic microglitter!
Overall impression: Great colour, good formula, nice rainbows.
Buy again: Yes

Living on the Edge is sold exclusively from Edgy Polish. Thanks to Katarina for having such a beautiful polish made, and thanks to Carrie for making it happen

Darling Diva ~ As Fake as my Orgasms (AFAMO)

Darling Diva ~ As Fake as my Orgasms (AFAMO)
Magenta linear holo with pink microglitter

As Fake as my Orgasms is from the Pageant Collection.

I was stunned when I first saw AFAMO! The colour is amazing and the holo flames gorgeous. And I absolutely love the pink shimmer too!

The formula is great, no less, and the polish covers really well. I used two coats to achieve perfection… Drying time is good, I have no problems to report in that department either.

AFAMO needs a layer of topcoat to really shine. It dries up a little bit bumpy and if you want total smoothness you need two layers of topcoat to even it out. I went for one layer though, I don’t mind grittiness at all.

Here’s two coats and a layer of topcoat:

Gorgeous! Absolutely gorgeous!!

It looks great in low lights too.

I made this into a Flamingo mani! I found flamingo motifs on Moyou London’s stamping plate Tropical Collection-06 and I stamped with another Darling Diva: Pink Diamond. Pink Diamond is a pale baby pink holo, which I wore on its own in this post. It’s a one coater so I thought I’d try it out for stamping, and wow! It’s amazing for stamping!

Take a look at my final mani:

The designs on Moyou London’s plates are relatively big, even on the regular non-XL plates. There hardly wasn’t space for one flamingo head on my small nails :D

I love AFAMO, no doubt about it. How about you?

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Holo with microglitter – purrty!
Overall impression: Fantastic polish, I love everything about it!
Buy again: Yes!!

Magical Music Manis 13: The Shoop Shoop Song ~ Cher

Girls, we've reached the end of the Magical Music Manis! It's been three very interesting months, and I've enjoyed challenging myself along with the other girls who participated!

Here's the last mani:

The Shoop Shoop Song is also called “It’s in his Kiss” and it’s from the movie Mermaids from 1990. The movie is really sweet and it stars Cher, the late, great Bob Hoskins, Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci.

Mermaids it is then!

My base colour is perfect for a mermaid mani. It’s beautiful “Memory Loss” from Pipe Dream Polish. I bought it from Edgy Polish and it is silver, green, and turquoise holo glitter in a neon turquoise jelly base. Two coats is what it takes and drying time is good.

I found some mermaidesque designs from Moyou London’s stamping plates Sailor Collection-01 and -08 and I stamped with NailNation 3000’s black crème polish simply called Black.

I stamped various bubbles on three of the nails, a mermaid on one nail and some sea weed on my thumb.

I applied a layer of “Inner Goddess” from Icing – it’s an equivalent to China Glaze’s Fairy Dust.

I can’t lie to you girls. I love this!

Here's the Pipe Dream Polish on its own. It's a lovely polish!

Here’s the video to The Shoop Shoop Song:

To the girls who participated in the challenge with me: Thank you so much, it's been so much fun! Let's do it again sometime! ♥

Here they are:

Darling Diva ~ She had a fat ass then, she has a fat ass now

Darling Diva ~ She had a fat ass then, she has a fat ass now
Coral pink linear holo with golden micro glitter

She had a fat ass then, she has a fat ass now (SHAFATSHAFAN) is from the Pageant Collection. There are a couple of other polishes in that collection that have alternative names for those who don’t want their polishes to have offending names, but this one hasn’t. That surprises me somewhat, but I’m not easily offended so I don’t really mind the two asses in the name, haha!

Anyway – let me tell you about the polish. The formula is good – but I expect that from my Darling Divas by now. I used two coats for desired opacity and the drying time between the coats is good.

Here’s what two coats and no topcoat looks like taken with flash:

It’s quite pretty like this, don’t you think?

But – because there is a but – if someone had been kind enough to show what this polish looked like in lower lights, I might not have bought it. So allow me to show you SHAFATSHAFAN in low lights, and what it looks like most of the time:

It’s not because it’s not pretty, it’s just not my colour. So I paired it with another Darling Diva, which I’ve showed you before: Don’t Call me Mommy in Public which is a berry coloured polish with shimmer. If you want to see it on it’s own again, click here. Anyway, I sponged DCMMIP on both sides of the nails, leaving SHAFATSHAFAN in the middle – like a vertical double gradient.

And this is more like it. I love the way DCMMIP frames SHAFATSHAFAN, take a look:

This is much more me, right?

Here’s a low light picture to prove my point:

I should have stopped here, but unfortunately I didn’t. You see, I’ve been seeing so many great swatches of gradients stamped with black, so that’s what I tried too. Unfortunately I didn’t like the result on me, boo! I chose a flowery design from Moyou London’s stamping plate Pro Collection-15 and I stamped with NailNation 3000’s Black.

Here’s my final mani:

I want to love it, but I don’t. :/

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Linear holo with microglitter
Overall impression: Good formula, good coverage and nice rainbows. Not crazy about the colour in low lights.
Buy again: No

PrettyPots ~ Strawberry Crepe

PrettyPots ~ Strawberry Crepe
Barbie pink scattered holo

It’s time for a really girly mani! Sometimes it’s cool to go pink :D

The formula of Strawberry Crepe is good and the polish covers well. I used two coats for my mani. The drying time between coats it good.

Here’s what it looks like – two coats and no topcoat – the picture is taken with flash:

And another one.

Here’s what the polish looks like in low lights. It’s still a pretty pink:

I went on with the pink. I found a pink glitter from Hits Speciallità:  Pink Pop. It’s from a box with four glitters; an MTV collection. I made a glittery stripe down the middle of each nail and then I topcoated the whole thing. Here’s my final mani taken with flash:

You also get a low light picture so you can see the pretty glitters better.

It’s not very often I wear girly displays like this, but I must admit that I like this final mani.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Scattered holo with shimmer
Overall impression: Girly colour, subtle holo effect, nice on the eyes
Buy again: Yes

I bought Strawberry Crepe from norwaynails.com.

NYX and friends ~ Another layering experience

NYX and friends ~ Another layering experience

I like layering polishes to achieve new looks. I think t’s really fun to rummage through the polishes to find some that go well together. Let’s see how well it went today, shall we?

I started out with NYX Woman, a lovely dark red with microshimmer. It’s a really beautiful polish. I love the colour and the effect! Great formula, good drying time, no worries to report at all.

Here’s two coats and no topcoat:

Is it a wonder that I love this so much?

Next step: I applied a layer of Too Fancy Lacquer “Summer Flames”. It’s a neon Pink holographic, exclusively made for Edgy Polish. The formula is a bit thick, but that’s perfect for my purpose. So: One layer on each nail, and then I dapped some of it off again with cling film. That gave a pretty cool effect, take a look:

Low light picture of the same thing:

I wanted to bring it a bit more together, so I applied a layer of Catrice’s “Holo Qué Tal?” from the old and now disconnected Million Styles collection. It’s a topper that adds a lovely pink shimmer to any mani. Here’s that step:

I love the look of that!

Last step was to holofy it all, yay! I applied a layer of my favourite holo topper from Ellagee, “Rainbow Syrup” (nice name, b t w). And here’s my final mani:

I absolutely love the way this turned out!

Do you ever layer your polishes like this?
