Too Fancy Lacquer ~ Starry Eyes

Too Fancy Lacquer ~ Starry Eyes
Turquoise linear holo

Starry Eyes is a lovely turquoise! The formula is good and the polish is easy to work with. I used two coats for full opacity and the drying time between the coats is good. The polish seemed to thicken up as I polished, so it might need a bit of thinner next time I use it. That’s just a minor thing.

Here’s what the prettiness looks like. Two coats, no topcoat, picture taken with flash:

I love the colour, it’s gorgeous!

The rainbows could be more prominent but I like it nonetheless!

Q: What makes a holographic polish look even better?

A: Glitter

So I added glitter. I used a turquoise glitter from El Corazón’s Confetti collection. It’s number 503a. I taped my nails and painted a layer of glitter on the tips. When that was dry I made small dots across the “line” with Love & Beauty’s Sand Lacquer called “Blue Jewel”. I finished my mani with a layer of topcoat.

Here’s the whole thing with flash:

And here’s a low light picture.

 The pretty sisters:

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Linear metallic holo
Overall impression: It’s a pretty colour and I like the rainbows. The polish is definitely prettier in the sunshine than out of it.
Buy again: Yes

I bought the Too Fancy Lacquer in Edgy Polish’s webshop right here.

Love & Beauty ~ swatches

I bought three Love&Beauty polishes on my vacation to New York last October, and today is the day where they have their little moment of fame.

The first one up is a textured purple polish called “purple/silver”. It’s not hard to guess the colour of it, is it? :D

Application was a breeze and girls, this purple beauty is a one coater. Drying time is good, no problems there either.

Here is one coat:

I like the added silver - that really does something good for this polish!

I mean: Look at that shine!

Verdict:
I like this. The sand effect is nice, and not so hugely gritty that you hang up on everything. I love that it’s a one coater and the added silver glitter is a big bonus!

The second polish up is a glitter, and that funnily enough is also called “purple/silver”! Guess what colour this one is!! :D It’s a purple tinted base with silver glitter and hexes. It doesn’t work on it’s own, it’s a topper. So I paired it with a purple polish from Golden Rose with the number 107, which is my default purple when it comes to purple underwear. It’s beautiful and it’s a one coater. Enough said. So I applied a layer of this glitter over the Golden Rose. I dipped the brush in the bottle one time only per nail – and here’s what it ended up looking like:

Glitter, glitter, glitter.

One last shot:

Verdict: Hmm. It’s a pretty glitter but it isn’t spectacular. You can definitely use it over colours other than purple because the base colour is so discrete!

Last one up is my favourite of the bunch: Blue Jewel. It’s a blue texture with the most beautiful shimmer in it. It’s not really fair that it has been sitting in the box for so long, because it was never really an untried! *gasp* I wore it while I was still in New York, you see, but I wasn’t able to get any good pictures of it back then – that’s why you haven’t seen it before, and also why it wrongfully sat in the box of untrieds! Sorry for that little lacquer. Poor baby!

Anyway, the formula is good and the polish is really easy to apply! It does take two coats to make it opaque, and the drying time is pretty average.

Here’s what two coats look like:

Look at that shimmer that really shows off on my middle finger and my pointer on this pic:

And here – isn’t it gorgeous!!

Verdict: Yes please, this is a seriously cool textured polish, I love it!

New York haul, part II

I went to New York on holidays last week, and here are some of the polishes I brought home. For the first part of the haul, click here

Let's take a look at the polishes, shall we?

First ones up are Essies; Penny Talk and Toggle to the Top. Penny talk is bought with stamping in mind, that collection of Mirror Metallics stamps so well! The other one reminds me of Leading Lady, just darker and with more glitter! I'll make a comparison post at some point for sure!

Essie Penny Talk and Toggle to the Top

Then there's Q R S polishes. I've never heard about that brand before, but thought I would try a couple ones out. The left one is a holo glitter, the right one is neon in real life.

Q R S: Glittering Rainbow and Snapdrag

Nicole By OPI isn't that easy a brand to get your paws on here, so I bought three from the Gumdrop collection.

Nicole by OPI Gumdrops: That's What I Mint, My Cherry Amour, Blue-Berry Sweet on You

I also went to Forever 21, and bought these three Love & Beauty-polishes. I wasn't impressed by any other colours than these. In fact: I did find the selection a bit boring!

Love & Beauty: Purple Silver. Love & Beauty Sand lacquers: Purple Silver and Blue Jewel

I didn't find many Color Clubs, and that made me wonder where the US girls find them. The only Color Club I bought was this effect polish. The other two are Sally Hansen X-treme wear polishes. I have a lot of red glitters like that one - it's my kryptonite - I have to have them all...

Color Club: Pearl-spective, Sally Hansen: Green Rocket and Red Carpet

I love Sally Hansen Insta-Dri! I acidentally bought the blue one twice, I must really like it ;) It's the first time that ever happens that I buy duplets by mistake!

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri: Pink Fast, S-Pear Time, Current Trend, Quick Jeanious

Here are three polishes from OPI's Mariah Carey holiday collection from 2013. Some of you know that I am not a huge OPI fan, but I actually felt these three speaking to me ;)

OPI: In My Santa Suit, It's Frosty Outside, Kiss me at Midnight

Icing! I love Icing's polishes. I chose six - these three: A glitter, a shimmer and a textured polish.

Icing: Frost Yourself, Teal for Real, Tini Bikini
And apparantly Icing changes their bottles now. I bought these three blue ones in new bottles: Two denim effects and a splatter glitter. I'm looking forward to trying them on :)

Icing: Jean'ie in a Bottle, Daisy Duke, Galaxy

That was the last part of my New York haul. 58 polishes came with me home, and I love them all. Do you have any favourites that speak to you?
