Lemonade Lacquer ~ Going Bananas & Serum No. 5 ~ Orange You Sunny

Lemonade Lacquer ~ Going Bananas & Serum No. 5 ~ Orange You Sunny
Pink shimmer & Orange crelly that glows in the dark

I bought today’s polishes in a blog sale recently and decided that they would look perfect together. I painted my nails with two coats of each polish. I made dots on two nails (well three actually but you can’t see my thumb) and stripes on two nails. The white I used was OPI’s “Angel with a Leadfoot”.

Here’s my final and very happy manicure.

Aren’t these polishes just perfect together?

Here are the polishes. The pink was perfect; it covered in two easy and fast drying coats. The orange is really weird. The formula is gloopy and it smells odd too. It did cover in two coats but the drying time was slow. Not the best polish I have for sure. It glows in the dark though, but I didn’t know how to actually photograph that, haha!

I love this: the colours, the brightness, the festivity!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: The pink dries really fast, the orange dries slowly
Finish: Shimmer / crelly
Overall impression: The pink is really good. I’m not impressed with the orange
Buy again: Yes to the pink, no to the orange

Serum No. 5 ~ Acai of Relief

Serum No. 5 ~ Acai of Relief
Blue to purple duochrome with shimmer

I like polishes that actually do something. It doesn’t have to be much, just a bit of shimmer, holo, glitter or maybe even colour changing effect. I find crèmes pretty boring on me, and I honest don’t own many of them.

Acai of Relief is a shimmery colour shifter. The formula is okay, the polish goes on a bit sheer on the first coat, but the second coat builds up to full opacity. If you’ve got longer and bigger nails than me, you might need three coats of it. The drying time is average.

Here’s two coats and no topcoat in the sun:

This photo is from the lightbox. The colour shift isn’t prominent but it’s there.

I added flakies. One coat of LynBDesigns’ Feeling Very Small and Insecure did the trick, and here’s that step:

Then I added a sticker to each nail, and finished the whole thing with a layer of topcoat. Here’s my final mani:

I quite like this.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Average
Finish: shimmer with subtle colour shift
Overall impression: Pretty colour and shimmer, I’m not impressed by the colour shift
Buy again: Not sure, probably not

Serum No. 5 ~ A Cup of Teal

Serum No. 5 ~ A Cup of Teal
Blue teal scattered holo

It’s a long time ago I bought A Cup of Teal at Norway Nails. When it arrived I thought it looked a little bit boring in the bottle, and then it ended in the bottom of the box of untrieds. Little did I know that I really like it on my nails! Let me show you in a minute.

The formula was great and this is a one coater, dahlings! I did apply a second coat out of habit but it wasn’t necessary. The drying time is good.

Here’s two coats and no topcoat in the sun:

And here’s a low light picture. Look at that canvas! The possibilities are almost endless with a base colour like this.

I ended up going for dots because I love dots. Since this teal is blue leaning I chose two different blue China Glazes for my dots: December to Remember and Frostbite. I love both those polishes.

Here is my final mani:

Dots are cool in my opinion. They’re so easy to make and they can spice any mani up. So yes, I love dots.

Here are the three pretties:

I feel a little bit sad for letting A Cup of Teal waiting for so long, but sometimes it’s just like that. Little did I know that it was such a sweet gem!

Number of coats: 2 (but 1 is enough)
Drying time: Good
Finish: Scattered holo
Overall impression: This is a fantastic base colour for nail art.
Buy again: Yes

Serum No. 5 ~ Flashing Lights ~ a test!

Serum No. 5 ~ Flashing Lights
A test of how it works best

It isn’t a secret that I love polishes that actually do something: Duochromes, multichromes, holos, glitters and so on. When I saw the first pictures of Flashing Lights from Serum No. 5 I was pretty sure that I was going to try and get my hands on it to give it a test run.

Flashing Lights is a shimmery silver top coat that reflects lights. It dries up to a slightly textured surface.

There are heaps of pretty pictures of this polish, so I decided to test how it works best. I decided to layer it over purple and then try it with 1, 2 and 3 coats. The purple I used is Golden Rose Matte Velvet #107.

Note: I was unable to catch the reflective effect with my camera, so these first pictures are taken with the camera in my phone.

Take a look at my little experiment:

One coat over purple – One coat alone – Two coats alone – Three coats alone

It reflects the lights on all four nails, but it obviously works best with one coat alone.

One coat over purple – One coat alone – Two coats alone – Three coats alone

I was really pleased to see that it has an affect over another colour as well. I don’t usually leave the house with naked or semi naked nails.

One coat over purple – One coat alone – Two coats alone – Three coats alone

Here’s what the polish looks like in ordinary lights. It’s like a sugary, silvery layer on your nails.

One coat over purple – One coat alone – Two coats alone – Three coats alone

Verdict:
The polish works best with one coat on its own. It takes three coats to achieve full coverage. The polish is easy to work with and dries relatively fast.
It probably gets to stay in my stash because it’s special, but to me this is honestly a polish that looks better on pictures than in real life.
