Intensive Rejuvenation for hands

Hand pack – Intensive Rejuvenation
”Helps soothe & soften dry, rought and chapped hands”

I got this pack of rejuvenating gloves in a swap. I’ve never seen anything like it here, but I’m always up for trying something new!

Here’s what the package looks like:

And here’s the instructions:

  • Wash hands
  • Put on gloves (a picture of a clock indicates “for 20 minutes”)
  • Rejuvenated hands

That sounds really easy, and who doesn’t want rejuvenated hands! :D

I washed my hands and opened the package. The first thing I noticed was the strong scent of rose perfume. It’s not my favourite scent, and I definitely would have preferred a more discreet perfume.

I pulled the gloves out of the package, and man, they were big!

Here’s a picture where I’ve put one of them on.

I must admit that I didn’t like wearing them, and that I counted every one of the 20 minutes. Imagine to pour out a portion of conditioner in your hands, and then wipe a cold, wet shower curtain around them, and then sit with that in 20 minutes. I haven’t tried sitting with a cold shower curtain, but I that’s how I imagine it feels. The gloves are made of plastic and there’s a lot of the moistening stuff inside. I did not like wearing them at all!!
When the 20 minutes had passed, I pulled the gloves off. My hands were really wet and they looked as if I’ve been sitting in a tub for a couple of hours :D

It didn’t say anything on the package about whether you should wash off the moist or to try and rub it in, so I tried the latter. It took half an hour before my skin had soaked it all up!

Does it work?
Yes, it works! My cuticles did definitely like this treatment and my hands did feel softer too.
But I keep getting the thought that a dense hand cream and a pair of cotton gloves would have done the same trick.

Have you girls tried anything like this? Did it work for you too?

Nail file and cuticle pusher review

Look at this nail file that I'm trying out today:

Here are the tools that came with it:

Five different tools! From left to right:
  • A nail file
  • A buffer
  • A tool to smooth out ridges
  • A cuticle file
  • A file for dead skin

The nail grooming tool came with an instruction sheet, explaining which tool to use for what:

The electric nail file requires two AA batteries, which aren't included in the package.

I've used three of the five files so far. I've tried the one for the nails, which works okay, but I must admit that it takes quite a bit longer to do it this way than I'm used to, so I'm probably not going to use it that much.
I've also used the two white cones for removing dead skin around the cuticles with. That works okay too, once I learned to control the tool. When you're accustomed to using a manual file, then it takes a little practice to get used to an electrical one :)

Pros:
  • The price tag says only $10.12 - of which you're getting 10% off if you're using my code: JCJ61!
  • It comes with five different tools, so you should be covered, file wise!
  • Great size, you can take it with you in your purse if you wish to.

Cons:
  • My test nail filing device is a little difficult to work with - sometimes I have to unscrew the lid to the batteries several times to make it work. I don't know if it's just mine in particular though, or if it's a general problem to do with the manufacture or design.
  • The nail file does take a bit of patience to operate effectively.
Verdict:

All in all a neat little tool! Not for "heavy" users though.

Next thing I'm trying today is a cuticle pusher:

It looks like this:

One end is spoon-shaped, and is for shaping and pushing cuticles. The edge is quite sharp, so it can also be used for removing dead skin around the cuticles. I find it a little "rough" for finger nails, but perhaps it's good for people with false nails. I've found that it works great for the toenails instead, so that's what I'm using it for!

The other end is like a hook. It is good for cleaning under the nails, and I find it particularly good for my pedicures. I have a tendency to suffer from ingrown toenails, and this tool is perfect for cleaning and "lifting" the toenail slightly to ease the pressure.

Pros:
  • The price. It only costs $2!
  • The material is stainless steel, very sturdy
  • Great for pedicures

Cons:
  • It's a little rough for manicures

Verdict:
Definitely recommendable!

Hand cushion review

Hi girls,

Today I'm going to show you a hand cushion:

The cushion was not at all what I expected it to be. I expected it to be a firm “pillow” to rest my hand on when I do my nails. The cushion is really firm, and it’s got a hard bottom. I think there’s a piece of wood inside. The cover also surprised me. It’s made of plastic, which I guess is a good point, since it’s impossible to put this piece of equipment in the washing machine. I don’t like the feel of it though...I would have preferred fabric, I think. The cover can’t be removed either; it’s stapled on.

I usually do my nails when I’m sitting on the sofa, and this cushion helps me get my nails up in a good height for polishing them.

The size is 30cm x 10cm x 5.5cm (approximately 11.8in x 3.9in x 2.2in)
Here’s a picture of it with my hand on it, so you can see the size of it.

I need to get used to working on the cushion and make myself some good habits with it. I’m not overly thrilled yet, but I still think it’s a pretty good piece of equipment. Perhaps someone who do other people’s nails will appreciate it more than me. I’m only ever doing my own nails :)

The verdict:

Pros:
-         It helps creating a good work height
-         The cushion is firm, helping you keep your hands steady
-         I love the tiger/leopard design
-         It’s a very good idea *under the right circumstances*

Cons:
-         It’s plastic, I don’t like the feel of it
-         It’s easier (for me) to just do my own stuff without it
