Christmas nails, 13th of December

My Christmas Calender of nails on the 13th of December has to be dedicated to St. Lucy, a young Sicilian girl who was martyred, killed for her faith, in 304.

I have told the story before, but here it is again:

In the year 300 Lucia lived in the city of Syracuse in Sicily. It was a hard life, with a father who had died and a mother who was seriously ill.  To ensure Lucia a life of wealth, her mother tried to get her married off. The young girl didn't want that. She ran to the tomb of Saint Agatha and prayed on her knees for guidance. Miraculously, the mother recovered and called off Lucia's upcoming wedding. Instead, Lucia gave her entire dowry to the poor of the city.

Lucia's fiancĂ©, of course, was not very happy about this news. As a revenge, he gossiped to the emperor about Lucia's Christian faith. At this time, the Christians were persecuted, and Lucia was therefore condemned to be burned at the stake. Legend has it she died firm in her faith, with a burning lamp in her hand.

After her death, Lucia was declared a saint. In art and folklore she is depicted with a crown of candles, and her memorial feast, which was commonly celebrated towards the end of the Middle Ages, is dedicated to light. The name Lucia comes from the Latin word lux, meaning "light". Santa Lucia's martyrdom was marked in the Catholic Church calendar on the day of her death, 13 December.

I made another galaxy manicure in honour of Santa Lucia (St. Lucy):

I feel a bit unimaginative by keep doing galaxy nails to honour Santa Lucia. But I always ending up loving the results, so why not :D

Christmas nails, 13th of December

Christmas nails, 13th of December

13th of December is St. Lucy's Day. Lucia was a young Sicilian girl who was martyred, killed for her faith, in 304. You can read her story in my blog post from last year here: https://rainbowifyme.blogspot.com/2020/12/christmas-nails-13th-of-december.html

I wanted to dedicate my nails to St. Lucy again this year, because I think it’s such a beautiful story – and I love that it symbolizes that there is always a light in the darkness.

I decided to use a polish from Different Dimension called “Always Look For Light In The Darkness”. It’s a polish that is
the result of a photo inspiration competition. The quest was to submit one of your photos and tell the story behind it. I won the competition with my photo – so it is actually my photo that was the inspiration for this polish – how cool is that?! The description is “Black jelly polish with red galaxy holographic microglitters and holographic microflakies”.

Here’s my galaxy nails in honour of St. Lucy:

I submitted this text: “I took this picture a couple of weeks ago. It's a display of trees with red lamps under them. There is one thing I like about winter; and this picture represents it: There are always lights in the darkness”.

Here are the polishes I used today.
