Prettypots and Pretty Serious

Prettypots and Pretty Serious
Orange and blue in sweet harmony

I bought these two beauties from Norway Nails recently and decided to wear them together. Orange and blue? Yes, why not!

First two coats of Pretty Serious’ “My Darlin’ Clementine”. It’s a lovely shimmery orange. It’s been a while since I bought any polishes from Pretty Serious, mostly because the last many collections haven’t called my name. I used to be a huge fan, but yeah, it fades a bit when there’s far between collections that you actually like, doesn’t it.

Anyway, My Darlin’ Clementine isn’t new, but I have been eyeing it for a while.

When that was dry I added the blue in shape of PrettyPots’ “You’ll never take my Sky”. It’s a great blue linear holo. I added it with a striper to get this design:

There’s also a layer of topcoat involved.

I like the mix of shimmer and holo a lot.

I know this isn’t perfect but I really like it anyway. What do you think?

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good for both
Finish: Shimmer and linear holo
Overall impression: I love them both
Buy again: Yes

I bought both these polishes from norwaynails.com.

PrettyPots ~ Bewitchery

PrettyPots ~ Bewitchery
Purple linear holo

I showed you Bewitchery when I reviewed the “What’s In-die Box?” from October 2014 here.

This is how it actually ended up looking after I was done with it:

On top of Bewitchery I painted a silver holographic fat stripe down the middle of each nail. The polish I used for that was Urban Outfitters “Silver Holo” – you gotta love self-explanatory names like that, haha!! On top of that I painted a thinner stripe with Stargazer’s #304.

I think these colours go really well together, don’t you think?

Here are the three sisters in crime:

It’s not the first time I make a three coloured stripicure, but it’s definitely not the last either. I dig this!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Scattered holo
Overall impression: I have got a good impression of all these three pretties!
Buy again: Yes to all

PrettyPots ~ Strawberry Crepe

PrettyPots ~ Strawberry Crepe
Barbie pink scattered holo

It’s time for a really girly mani! Sometimes it’s cool to go pink :D

The formula of Strawberry Crepe is good and the polish covers well. I used two coats for my mani. The drying time between coats it good.

Here’s what it looks like – two coats and no topcoat – the picture is taken with flash:

And another one.

Here’s what the polish looks like in low lights. It’s still a pretty pink:

I went on with the pink. I found a pink glitter from Hits Speciallità:  Pink Pop. It’s from a box with four glitters; an MTV collection. I made a glittery stripe down the middle of each nail and then I topcoated the whole thing. Here’s my final mani taken with flash:

You also get a low light picture so you can see the pretty glitters better.

It’s not very often I wear girly displays like this, but I must admit that I like this final mani.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Scattered holo with shimmer
Overall impression: Girly colour, subtle holo effect, nice on the eyes
Buy again: Yes

What’s In-die Box?, October 2014: Holo-ween!

I recently received the What’s In-die Box? for October. I subscribe to the box, so I receive it every month. October was special though, since it was an all holo box. Yay!!

You don’t know what the five polishes actually look like when you order the box, but you get an idea about the colour scheme. Here’s the colour scheme for October’s Holo-ween box:

That looks pretty promising, don’t you think?

This is what the polishes actually look like:

Night Terror, Paranormal, Bewitchery, Ghost Gutz, Skulloween

I’m going to show you all five polishes today and I am going to show you in the order that I unwrapped them.

First one up is Emily de Molly’s Night Terrors. This is the inspirational picture:

It’s an amazingly beautiful dark midnight blue linear holo with (what appears to be) blue and magenta shimmer. The formula is great, I had no issues with application. I used two easy and fast drying coats for my swatches.

This is Night Terrors. Two coats, no topcoat, the picture is taken with flash:

Night Terrors

The colour is deep and vampy, and the holo flame is beautiful. I love this polish!

Night Terrors

Next one up is Paranormal from Glam Polish. Here’s the inspirational pic for it:

Mmm, teal! And even better: Holographic teal!

The formula was neither thin nor thick, but had really good coverage. It was almost opaque after the first coat. I applied a second coat and it did enhance the colour depth a little bit, so two coats are recommendable. Drying time between the coats is average.

Funny note: I check if a polish is dry by touching the polish with my upper lip, and I actually ended up with teal holographic polish on my lip today! :D – So yes, average drying time! :D

Look how pretty it is:

Paranormal

This is such a me colour, I love it!

Paranormal

The next polish I unwrapped was Pretty Pots’ “Bewitchery”. Here’s is the picture that was used for inspiration:

Purple! I love purple almost just as much as I love teal. I had no issues with the formula and Bewitchery requires two coats for full opacity. The drying time between the coats is good. Look how pretty it is:

Bewitchery

Oh yeah, I love that!

Bewitchery

It’s time for polish number four, the brightest one of the bunch. It’s Peita’s Polish: “Ghost Gutz”. The inspirational picture looks like this:

I am repeating myself here: The formula was good and easy to work with. I used two easy coats for full opacity and the drying time is good. The polish dries up to a silky semi matte finish.

Here’s how Ghost Gutz looks like; two coats and no topcoat:

Ghost Gutz

Please note the big bow with witches’ hats on. It can be taken off the bottle when you apply the polish. You can also use it as a big “ring” for Halloween parties if you wish.

Ghost Gutz

The last polish in the box was Lilypad Lacquer’s “Skulloween”. It’s a rusty orange linear holo with golden microglitter. The inspirational picture is here:

The formula is good and covers well. One coat was almost enough but the second coat made it all come more together, if you know what I mean. The drying time is good.

Here’s two coats and no topcoat. The little darker “dots” are the golden microglitter popping through the holo goodness.

Skulloween

And here’s a slightly out of focus picture so you can dwell in the holoness of Skulloween.

Skulloween

Verdict:
I am a fan of the “What’s In-die Box?” concept and that’s why I buy the box every month. I know that the sales have gone up the times they make it an all holo box like this one, so perhaps the clever people behind the boxes should put more holos into their boxes in general.

This particular box is great, I love all the polishes. The colour scheme is perfect for Halloween and the quality of the polishes is top notch! Thumbs up from me!

PrettyPots ~ Blueberry Muffin

PrettyPots  ~ Blueberry Muffin
Purple/blueberry scattered holo

Yesterday I showed you Green Velvet Cupcake – and Blueberry Muffin is the pretty sister!

I didn’t encounter any problems with the formula and the polish is really easy to work with. It takes two easy coats to make it opaque and the drying time between the coats is pretty good.

It was evening and the sun had almost gone down, but I managed to snag a series of photos for you. Here’s two coats and no topcoat; the picture is taken in the evening sun:

I love the way the holo dust looks!

I painted a pink hologlitter stripe down the middle of each finger. I used Eva Mosaic Fashion Colour #62. When that was dry I panted a thinner stripe down the middle of the whole thing. For this I used a striper from Ming Shang that doesn’t appear to have name nor a number.

Here’s my final mani in the last bit of evening sun:

I think it looks cool with the two colours down the middle!

Here’s a lightbox pic so you can see the Eva polish better.

I might as way say it right away: I dig this. I think it’s awesome! :D

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Scattered holo with shimmer
Overall impression: Pretty colour, subtle but nice scattered effect
Buy again: Yes

PrettyPots ~ Green Velvet Cupcake

PrettyPots  ~ Green Velvet Cupcake
Green scattered holo with blue shimmer

Green Velvet Cupcake is from the core collection.

The formula is great and the polish is so easy to work with. It takes two easy coats to make it opaque and the drying time between the coats is pretty good.

And here’s a lovely, lovely green – I love the name too! Two coats and no topcoat; the picture is taken with flash:

Look at the scattered holo effect!

It’s such a nice colour, so easy on the eyes! :)

This is what the polish looks like in the lightbox. Still pretty!

I considered stamping on it but I changed my mind. I sponged glitter on the tips instead. I used LynBDesigns’ “Oh, You Beautiful Idiot”, which is a clear base with blue and green glitters and tiny stars. I applied a layer of topcoat before I took the pics of my final mani:

I love the effect of glittery fingertips!

“Oh You Beautiful Idiot” requires special topcoating to get smooth. I ended up with two coats of topcoat and even then the glitter was still really bumpy! Fortunately I don’t mind that, but I just thought I’d mention it.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Scattered holo with shimmer
Overall impression: Pretty colour, subtle but nice scattered effect
Buy again: Yes

PrettyPots ~ Sugar Plum Faerie vs. Peita’s Polish ~ Little Princess

PrettyPots ~ Sugar Plum Faerie vs. Peita’s Polish ~ Little Princess
A comparison

Today I’ve got another comparison for you. I’m going to compare two pink glitters that look pretty much the same in the bottles.

Here are the two polishes I’m going to compare: PrettyPots Sugar Plum Faerie on the left and Peita’s Polish Little Princess on the right.

On the first glance they look the same but a closer look reveals that the glitters in PrettyPots are just a fraction bigger than the glitters in Peita’s Polish.

Here they are on my nails. It’s two coats of each polish and a layer of Essence Studio Nails’ Top Sealer.

Sugar Plum Faerie – Little Princess – Sugar Plum Faerie – Little Princess

The formula is different. Sugar Plum faerie feels like a glitter to apply and Little Princess feels like a suspension base with glitter….it’s smoother, if that makes sense.

Little Princess – Sugar Plum Faerie – Little Princess- Sugar Plum Faerie

Sugar Plum Faerie has a touch of blue that Little Princess doesn’t have. It’s visible if you look really closely, but you have to look for it.

Sugar Plum Faerie – Little Princess – Sugar Plum Faerie – Little Princess

Last but not least they’re also a slight colour difference. Sugar Plum Faerie is a fraction darker than Little Princess. But I am sure nobody would have noticed if I had worn the two different polishes that day.

Verdict:
Sugar Plum Faerie and Little Princess are not dupes. The glitter is not the exact same size and the colour isn’t exactly the same either. They’re equally easy to apply and both cover in two coats. Drying time is good.
To me they’re not different enough to own both, but I’m not sure of which one I’ll move on to a better home yet.

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Pretty good
Finish: Microglitter
Removal: I’d recommend the foil method
Overall impression: Pretty and girly glitters, great for a base for something else!

PrettyPots ~ Monster Grimace

PrettyPots ~ Monster Grimace
Lavendar jelly with white, green, pink and black hexes

Today I’m going to show you a rare sight on this blog: A pastel! Monster Grimace is lavender and it’s a jelly, so it’s totally out of my comfort zone. Allow me to show it to you anyway.

The formula is a bit on the thin side so it did take three coats to nuke that visible nail line. Drying time between the coats is pretty average. I didn’t arrange the glitters at all, they just spread out au natural, the way you see them on the pics. I applied a layer of topcoat before I took my pictures.

Here’s three coats plus a layer of topcoat – the pictures are all taken in the shunshine:

I must admit that this looks better on me than I expected.

The glitters kind of float around in the jelly.

One last picture:

The mix of colours really works in my opinion. I did think that I was going to need 4-5 coats to make it opaque, but three did the trick. It’s just not my kind of polish though, so I’ll look for a better home for it, so it doesn’t sit neglected and unloved in a Helmer.
