Essie ~ Starry Starry Night (retro revival)

Essie ~ Starry Starry Night (retro revival)
Navy blue jelly with silver and blue glitter

I might as well tell you right away: I have never been tempted to spend a lot of money on the original Starry Starry Night, that came out long time ago. The colour is a bit too dark to be mine, to be honest. But when this remake of it came out I thought it was worth having in the collection just for the hell of it.

The formula is good for a jelly and I used two coats for my mani. My boyfriend passed me as I was painting the nails, and his first reaction was: “Wow, that’s dark!” So you can hear that it isn’t really my colour.

Anyway, this is two coats and no topcoat:

I like the look of the glitter and I like the fact that it’s so well behaving for a jelly.

I did however decide to try and lighten it up a bit by stamping on it. I found a nice navy motif on Moyou London’s stamping plate Sailor Collection-07 and I stamped with Himalayan Peaks from El Corazon’s stamping series. It’s a blue and very shimmery stamping polish that definitely works best over dark polishes.

This is the final result including topcoat:

The stamping definitely helped a bit.

I think Starry Starry Night is worth having in the collection, but there’s no way that I’ll ever spend lots of money on the original one. How about you?

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Jelly with glitter
Overall impression: Really nice formula for a jelly, nice looking glitter

  1. It's dark yet pretty and you made it lighter with the stamping - it looks so sci-fi :)

  2. I also didn't want to buy it at the huge sum of money it was sold for after it was sold out. But I got it this time around, and like it.
I don't think it's too dark for you, I love it on you!

  3. I bought this before I had seen or heard anything about it. I was so dissapointed that it wasn't a dupe on the original one. But it's still a very pretty polish and I'm glad that I have it.
