Girly Bits ~ Hulk Smash!

Girly Bits ~ Hulk Smash!
Green jelly with shredded purple glitter and blue shimmer

Here’s just a short post to show you my latest Girly Bits polish: Hulk Smash. I like the idea of the purple glitter in the green base, I think it’s cool when things don’t always match.

It was clear to me that this polish need underwear. I have just bought a green polish from OPI called “Forrest my case”. It’s a polish that’s sold exclusively in Sephora, and I snatched it really cheap last time I was there. OPI normally costs US$22 here, and I got this for US$6, so that was a really good bargain for me! And I have a question : Do the OPI team think that Forest is actually spelled with a double R, or is there some obscure reference to Forrest Gump that I’m not getting, here?? Tip: there’s a difference between being amusingly zany and being tediously pretentious (or dumbass), with the names and all. Just saying.

I applied one coat of the OPI. If I should wear it on its own I would have applied two coats, but this is only underwear. When that was dry I applied two coats of Hulk Smash!. Drying time is on the slow side, and the glitter was not really cooperative. I had to fish for it, and it was really a challenge to get it to spread nicely and evenly on the nails.

I applied a layer of Poshé top coat and this is what my final mani got to look like:

I like the purple glitter, and I love the blue shimmer, it’s so pretty against the green. On this picture you can really see it:

I find it difficult to be creative with this polish. I mean – there’s already a lot going on, so it’s hard to figure out what to add to make it look even cooler.

Here are the two polishes that fit so perfectly together:

I like the Hulk Smash!, but I must admit that I’m a little bit disappointed in both coverage, application and drying time. The polish is cool so it gets to stay for a bit, but I did consider whether this is a keeper or not. It’s a shame, because I really want to like Girly Bits’ polishes! (Edit: I have indeed already found a new loving home for it! <3)

Have you girls any experience with the brand? And do you like the look of this?

For the record: This mani left my nails totally yellow! I have tried everything to get rid of the heavy staining: Pure acetone, lemon juice, toothpaste, baking powder,  bicarbonate and even bleach! And my nails stayed yellow through all this. I guess that means that both of these polishes have to go, since I don't know who the true sinner is! >:( I have a feeling that it is a combination of the two.

If you've got advice about how to get rid of yellow staining of the nails, then please, please, please share in the comments below. I'll be you forever grateful if you know how I can get rid of it.

  1. That is... aehm... very green... ;)
I hate stainers - they are expelled from my collection as soon as I find out LOL

    1. 'Tis green indeed :D
I actually haven't experienced many stainers - I believe it's also got to do with chemistry. But man... the other one, the OPI has to go too!

  2. I like the combination of purple and green in one bottle! Such a cool poilsh.
But it's really disappointing that your nails turns yellow... :( I always try to buff the upper layer, so it helps to halve the yellowness.

    1. I have never tried buffing; I'm a little bit nervous that it'll make my nails fragile and more likely to break :)
Purple and green is great and the blue shimmer is just fantastic!

    2. I use buff too.
That's great that these polishes found a new loving home because they make a perfect green match :)

  3. Love this! Green and purple might not be the obvious choice but they do look amazing together :)

  4. The Hulk Smash is very unique, in a good way! It sucks that it stains your nails -- I tried hydrogen peroxide and it worked okay for me... but if all the other stuff (toothpaste, etc.) didn't work I doubt it will either :P

    1. I'm not sure that it's Hulk Smash alone that stains. Nor the OPI alone. I have a feeling that it was a combination of the two that did the trick. So I guess it's my luck that my fingernails grow pretty quick :D

  5. That's so pretty! I never would have thought to add purple glitter to green, but the combination is so fun and lovely! :D Total bummer about the staining though. I'm like you... I don't buff my nails because I don't want to thin them out, which is what buffing does. For me, if I just give my hands a few days off from nail polish, and shower and wash my hair a few times in there, that helps to wash out the stains from my nails too.

    1. It's exactly the thinning of the nails that keeps me from buffing them! And usually I don't mind staining much because I do wear nail polish all the time, so it's only really me who see it. But this was a bit overwhelming, to be honest! :)

  6. I love the namne on this polish! The polish itself is ok, but I could probably buy just for the name :)

  7. Hey I know this post is a bit old, but don't get rid of both! I can verify it is the OPI that stains. I have the same color. Love it, but my nails are SO YELLOW. I love it enough to keep it in my collection, I might just use a nude or white under it I suppose.

I'd guess that Hulk Smash is safe. :)

    1. In that case I got rid of the wrong polish. That's so typically me, haha!
Thank you so much for your input, it was nice to get that cleared up! :)
