OPI Hawaii ~ My Gecko Does Tricks and This Color’s Making Waves

OPI Hawaii ~ My Gecko Does Tricks and This Color’s Making Waves
My picks from the Hawaii collection

I hardly ever buy entire collections of polish, and especially not when the collections are big, like OPI’s tend to be. There are 12 polishes in the Hawaii collection from spring 2015, and I picked two of them. Let me show you which two.

My Gecko Does Tricks is a yellow toned green shimmer. The formula is a bit on the thin side, but it built up okay for me, and two coats were enough. Bear in mind that my nails are relatively small and not really long either, so if your nails are bigger and/or longer than mine you might need three coats to cover the nail line. The drying time is pretty average.

Here’s what two coats and no topcoat look like in ordinary daylight:

And here’s a picture taken in my lightbox. That reveals that My Gecko Does Tricks actually have a slight duochromatic effect to it. It looks like green to orange!

Verdict:
The colour is nice even though it doesn’t wow me. I love the fact that it’s a duochrome though!

The second one I bought is This Color’s Making Waves. It’s a blue shimmer with tiny pink baby flecks in it. And behold – this one has also some duochrome magic added!

Anyway, we’ll get back to that. Again: The formula is okay but a bit thin. It built up in two coats and the drying time was average.

Here’s two coats and no topcoat:

This photo shows both the duochromatic effect and the baby flecks!

I paired This Color’s Making Waves with Ruffle from Sally Hansen’s Luxe Lace collection. It’s a clear base with multisized black glitter. Easy to work with, spreads good, average drying time.
Here’s my final mani in daylight:

And once more I made my nails match the hallway paint… HAHAHA!

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Average
Finish: Slight duochrome with shimmer
Overall impression: These are okay polishes. I love that they’re duochromes!
Buy again: Yes

  1. You know o like them both but in Australia they're around the $20 mark and well they're not special enough for me to pay that much. Having said that my gecko does tricks is a pretty cool for a green with a yellow tone in it.

    1. They're equally expensive here, so I buy a lot of my OPIs on eBay. These two were around half normal price, which is great! Otherwise I'm not sure I would have picked them up.

  5. In the last year or so I have been pretty disappointed with OPI nail polishes. The formula is still great but the collections are so boring. We have seen the same colors for so many years now. I would like an exciting collction like the Bond Collection again. There were some amazingly unique polishes!
The two polishes are nice but they don't wow me either.
