Barry M ~ Web Effects (239)

Barry M ~ Web Effects (239)
Orange crockle

Today I’m going to try out an effect polish from Barry M, namely an orange crockle. A crockle is almost the same as a crackle, but the lines in a crockle are more rounded, like in a crocodile skin pattern. I believe Web Effects came out around Halloween in 2012.

I needed a base colour first though, so I chose a silver/holo microglitter from Cosmetics Arts. It doesn’t seem to have a name. I bought it in a blog sale a long while ago, and I have used it before, so I’m not sure why it’s been sat sitting in the box of untrieds. It’s a gorgeous glitter that you can use as a one coater, if you want a bit of discrete bling. Discrete Bling? <shakes head at the very idea>. I used two coats though – easy to apply, good drying time, great glitter.

Here’s two coats taken with flash:

And here’s what it looks like in low lights:

The base polish needs to be tacky when you apply the crockle. Don’t use too thick coats! I used fairly thick coats, and that made my mani a fail.

When you apply the crockle, at first it looks as if nothing happens. Just as I started to give up and thought it just wasn’t working, the first little crocklettes appeared – just as the polish started to dry.

Here’s a flash picture of my final mani. As you can see, the layers were too thick on my middle finger and the index finger. It didn’t crockle on one side of those two nails at all.

The pinkie was the one that did best!

Here’s a low light picture:

I’m seriously not convinced at all!

  1. I love that micro glitter from Cosmetics Arts.
Did you try how it crackles on a smooth cream or shimmer polish?

    1. No I didn't, because I've read blogs that tried that, with the same result as I got :)

  7. I remember when this came out, it got slated! I never picked it up. It's okay I guess, not really the effect it promises though. Great glittery base :-)

    1. I don't think I'm going to keep mine - it seems like a little bit waste of space to be honest :)
