Essie ~ Toggle to the Top

Essie ~ Toggle to the Top
Deep red jelly with red glitter

Honestly: I am not a dedicated Essie fan. I don’t own many of their polishes, but once in a while there is this one that speaks to me. Toggle to the Top is such a polish.

Application was easy and so was the coverage. It took two coats to achieve desired opacity. Drying time between the coats was pretty good.

Here’s what two coats and a layer of topcoat looks like:

I really like the glitter – red glitter is my kryptonite!

Showing off the glitter:

I didn’t know what to do with it so I ended up just painting two holo lines on each nail. I used Color Club’s Halo-Graphic and I made the stripes with a striper brush. It’s definitely not my best nail art, but it can’t all be, now can it!?

I hate to say that I am a little bit disappointed in Toggle to the Top. The base is way darker than I imagined and ended up looking almost black on my nails. And if there’s something I don’t think looks good on me, it’s black nails.

But never mind. I’m sure I can find a good home for it ;)

Number of coats: 2
Drying time: Good
Finish: Jelly with glitter
Overall impression: Good formula, good quality polish. The base colour is a bit too dark for me
Buy again: No

  2. I have this one but haven't tried it yet. Maybe you should try Leading Lady? I have it and the base nail polish is lighter, much more red and the whole effect is very pretty :) If you don't like blacks, Essie's Leading Lady may be better for you :)

  3. I'm not a big Essie fan either, but wow, I see why you love this one - the addition of the holo stripes is such a good match!

  5. I've never tried any Essie polishes (and don't own any) but I do like the look of this one and I was tempted by Leading Lady at one point! :-)

  7. I love Essie polishes! I can imagine this could look too black on the nails but in your pics it looks just gorgeous :D

  8. It's very vampy! I usually don't wear polishes this dark... only on occasion when the mood strikes :) I agree it ends up looking darker than it does in the bottle... maybe you would like it more layered over a base color? if not you're right you could probably find a good home for it

    1. Hmm... I didn't think of layering it at all. It's a good idea though, thanks :)

  9. I have only few Essie nail polishes in my collection mostly because it's not easy to get them here and also they're quite pricey :). As for me I like Toggle to the Top very much :)

    1. I also think they're a bit too pricey - especially bearing in mind that many of their polishes are pretty boring :D
