China Glaze ~ Under the Boardwalk
Neon purple creme
Welcome to the polish that comes directly from Hell! Well, maybe not
literally because I actually bought this polish in Hungary
where it’s quite nice, but before it materialised in Hungary it must have originated in
Hell.
Under the Boardwalk is from the Summer Neons 2014 collection.
The formula is awful. It’s thick and gloopy and I seriously couldn’t
work with it.
At first I tried to apply two coats alone. I couldn’t get the polish out
to the edges of my nails; it was either not even close to the cuticles or ON
the cuticles, grr. Drying time was fast – that’s the best thing there is to say
about this polish. It dries up matte, like many neons do, so I applied a layer
of topcoat to make it shiny.
Here’s my first attempt. Two coats and a layer of topcoat. Streaky,
ugly, fail!

Then I thought to myself that it might be the kind of polish that likes
white underwear! So I took it all off and started out with a layer of OPI’s
Angel with a Leadfoot which is a plain white crème. When that was dry I applied
three layers of Under the Boardwalk and a layer of topcoat. I still don’t like
it. The formula is just annoying and I can’t seem to get the coverage I want.
All I get in an uneven streaky mani.
Here’s second attempt: Three layers of Under the Boardwalk over white + a layer of topcoat:

Look at how different the colour is on the nails when you compare them
to the bottle colour!
There’s only one thing that can fix this mess: Glittah – and lots of
it!!!
I applied a layer of Color Club’s “Something New”, which seemed to be
appropriate name wise; this is the first Color Club I got in the new bottles. I
didn’t like the look of them at first, but now I actually think they’re ok. The
glitter is white and baby blue and it’s extremely dense. You know the rule: One
dip in the bottle per nail.
Here’s the cover up of the China Glaze:
I really like this white glitter, I’m going to use it a lot when winter
arrives!
Did you buy any of the China Glaze Summer Neons? If yes, did you also
have problems with the formula?
I'm so sorry to hear about the formula, I have come across some of the lighter shades in the spring collection that also weren't up to the normal CG standard...
ReplyDeleteThe glitter fix is rather beautiful :)
Glitter is just perfect for stupid polishes like this one. :)
DeleteI don't understand the formula is so bad - I mean, I usually really like CGs. But not this one!
Well I won't be buying that China glaze by the look of it. I had a similar problem with a purple opi neon. You would think the big international brands would have the formula for neons sorted wouldn't you. But sadly no!
ReplyDeleteMy point exactly , and if they can't get it to work properly, then don't put it on the market, dangnabbit! :D
DeleteI think that more money should b spent on polish development and less on marketing. Especially with all the amazing indies around doing such a great job and stealing market share.
DeleteAs for your glittah fix.... It just goes to show that money doesn't fix everything but glitter sure as hell does!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, that's the best point evah!! :D
DeleteSad about the formula, but looks cool with the glitter!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I was thrilled to cover it up with glitter! :D
DeleteIt looks better with the white, all in all it's lovely but the formula...
ReplyDeleteThe formula lets the polish down tremendously! Argh! :D
DeleteWhat a beautiful color, I love the white glitter!

Thank you, I'm glad to hear it :)
DeleteI have had similar problems with China Glaze and some of the high end nail polish brands. Its so frustrating. The bumps on the nails gets magnified in the photographs :-(
ReplyDeleteIt's true: Everything that you don't want to see on the pictures is being enhanced, grrr! :)
DeleteShame about the formula but it looks great with the CC on top :-)
ReplyDeleteman, you've got more patience that I would.. i would have thrown this polish away long time ago!! gaah!! i'm getting frustrated just thinking about it!! hehe =)) you made it look all better with the glitter though!
ReplyDeleteI must admit that I felt more patient than I've ever done before, but damn, I just wanted it to work! LOL! :D
