Blue Streak
- my blue
stripe mani
I’m up to doing something a bit different these days.
I mean, usually I spice up a mani by adding glitter, shimmer or a stamp, but
sometimes it’s nice to challenge yourself and do something that you know you
could be better at.
I had an idea in my head that I wanted to try and
make. Light blue base, a thick dark blue glitter stripe across the nail and
then framed with a thin silver line. Depending on the thickness of that glitter
line, I thought about making little dots in the glitter. That last thing never
happened though. It would have been way too much, IMO.
Here’s the finished result:
The base colour is Dare to Wear’s “City Wear”, a
pretty light blue packed with lots and lots of shimmer. It was easy to apply,
almost a one coater, but I gave it two coats to get the best looking base for
my experiment. Here’s how it looked on its own. No top coat.
I used China Glaze’s “Dorothy Who?” as the glittery
line across the nails, and Claire’s nail art pen in silver for the thin framing
lines. I tried to use only one coat of the China Glaze, but I had to draw the
line again a couple of places to make it more prominent. Here’s the “crew” of
polishes I used:
This doesn’t look quite as good as it did in my head,
but I think it’s a pretty good attempt on a freehand nail art mani. I couldn’t
draw if my life depended on it, and I think it shows.
I really like the shimmer though and it’s probably not
the last time I try something similar.
What do you think? Is it acceptable, or should I just
practice more?
I like the result and the colors you used! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so nice to hear, thank you :)
DeleteIt's more than acceptable! It looks great! I'm always really impressed by people who can freehand
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks! I don't really think I can freehand, and especially not on my right hand, but even though it didn't look like I wanted it to, I still had it on for a couple of days. :)
DeleteI like blue in general and I like this blue mani! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I love blue on my nails. :)
DeleteNice color combo - and mani - it's good to challenge yourself, every new mani is a learning experience :)
ReplyDeleteI know, right? :) I should challenge myself more, really. :)
DeleteVery cute. The blue glitter is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'll be trying that blue glitter on its own soon. :)
DeleteDorothy who is amazing! I like the way it turned out :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I was quite pleased with Dorothy Who myself. :)
DeleteI think it looks good! Practice makes perfect :)
ReplyDeleteThanks - and you're right. And it's fun to practice with nail polish. :)
DeleteFun mani! It reminds me of Easter eggs for some reason--silly brain of mine. :)
ReplyDeleteEaster eggs! I like that thought. I'll keep that in mind for next year! :)
DeleteI think it's pretty good. I can't even draw lines or do dots. So at least you are challenging yourself to do other things. That's always good in my book!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I try to step out of my comfort zone once in a while. I almost always feel good afterwards. :)
Deletethe colours are great together! i would love to do a french with those, the glitters on the tip and the silver line in between the glitter and metallic.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, that's a great idea, I'd love to see that :)
