China Glaze ~ Take a Trek

China Glaze ~ Take a Trek
Denim blue holographic

Do you sometimes change your mind at the last minute about which polish to wear? I did that today. I was going to wear another one of my Invogue polishes, but the sun was shining like crazy, so I decided to air one of my new holos instead!

Take a Trek is from the Hologlam collection from Spring 2013. I can’t resist a good blue polish, and I love holos, so this was pretty much a must have for me. I hadn’t started collecting polishes when China Glaze’s OMG collection came out in early 2009 (or possibly late 2008), which is a shame, really. I have managed to get my hands on a few of them, but that’s a completely different story. Anyway, when I heard about the Hologlams, I just knew I had to have some.

I used an aqua base coat, because I’ve read that Hologlams like that underwear. The formula is a bit on the thick side, but pretty easy to work with anyway. It looks like a polish that needs thinner after a couple of manis, but we’ll see about that. It pretty much covered after the first coat, but I applied two to even out the last imperfections.

Here it is in all its glory. Two coats, no topcoat, and in direct sunlight:

The holo isn’t as prominent as in the OMG collection – but I wish it was, LOL! It’s pretty nonetheless though, and I’ll also try and stamp with this. It feels like a polish that’ll work for stamping too!

There are rainbows on my nails, hurray!

I decided something discrete on this pretty holo: Flakies! I used Golden Rose Scale Effect #2, which is a version of “Unicorn Pee”, as far as I’m informed. The flakies are blue, red, orange, pink and green.

I applied one single coat of the flakies and sealed it all up with a layer of H. K. Girl topcoat, and here’s what that ended up looking like in the sun:

The holo effect was dulled a little bit but not much, and I am very pleased with this!

The cool thing about this is that the flakies really show up in low light, where the holo doesn’t show much of itself. Win!

How do you like this, girls? Please let me hear your honest opinion. Would you have applied flakies over a holo?

  1. I agree - I too wish the holo was stronger - but I do love the formula in them.
It's a really good idea to top it with a flakie polish!

    1. I hope that they come up with a third collection, even greater than the two they already made :)

    1. I don't want to spend ridiculous amounts on the OMG collection, but there are a couple that I really wish I had :)

  5. It's still a beautiful blue, even if the holo isn't too strong. And I like it with the flakies you added on top! :-)
